You know what really grinds my gears? Summer Reading Assignments! Seriously one of the most stupid ideas ever thought of.

I'm an honors student, and I get As and Bs all year round.  By the time Summer rolls around, I WANT A BREAK! Everyone can only do so much.  I bust my back for ten months, building my future, hoping I'll get just 2 months out of the year to myself.  And what happens?  The last week of school, the head of the English Department comes over the Loudspeaker saying that we have to do a SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT, DUE THE FIRST WEEK SCHOOL STARTS.

Now don't get me wrong, I like to read.  The gift of literature is something that Americans may usually take for granted.  The thing is, when I read, I like for it to be ON MY TERMS. I hate reading books that the school forces you to read, that 7 times out of 10, suck. Half the reason why some of those books are best sellers is probably because the damn schools buy them to force their students to read them. When you are forced to read something that you don't like, it takes all the fun out of it. Even worse, you have to do a long drawn out assignment.  An Essay, character analysis, etc, I can't even enjoy my summer because I have this hanging over my head.  Even worse, we have A TEST on the third or so day.

Summer is a time where a student should be able to recharge for the coming year.  But no.  We have to do even more work than we did in school.  At the end of the packet they gave us explaining the assignment they had enough nerve to write "Have a fun and relaxing summer."

Am I going crazy?  Or are we actually supposed to enjoy a Summer thats been taken away from us?

You know what puts the icing on the cake?  Those damn preps and popular kids who take the "Easier classes" get to rest this summer, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT.  Is that not fair or what? They don't even try all year, and they get to enjoy their summer with nothing hanging over their head.

You want to know what I think? (Well you're reading this, so I guess you do) The honors kids who need a rest should be able to enjoy their summer, while those idiots who do nothing all year are forced to work and do what we have to do.  We're the ones who deserve a rest, NOT THEM!

You know what really grinds my gears?  Standardized Tests. Seriously, what's the whole purpose of them? Yeah, why not just waste away your week taking some stupid test! I just took a Language Arts test today.  ON A MONDAY!  Seriously, Monday is my "Get out of the Weekend gaming daze" day, but no, I get to blow my future because I'm tired! 

I don't understand how filling in circles, picture prompts and sitting in a classroom for 2-3 hours on end is supposed to determine your future!  Is this just another conspiracy we're not supposed to know about?  Is this just another means of "Keeping the teenage man down"? Ok, I know that was cliche, but I'm in a rush, so I'll get to the point.  Standardized Tests are pointless and stupid.

And just when I think that there's a positive thing to this whole testing thing, I GET HIT WITH TWO RESEARCH PAPERS! I'm talking to a friend of mine in the hallway, and guess what?  My History teacher comes out of nowhere and thrusts an assignment into our hands!  He said "You can start hating me now! [Insert villainous laugh here]" Now I love the guy, coolest teacher I've had in years, but hunting us down in the hallway to give us a 3-5 page paper is a little ridiculous, don't you think?

I thought testing week meant no homework.  Has this one idea become a myth as well?  Like weekends?

You know what really grinds my gears?  Valentine's Day.  What a stupid excuse for a holiday!  If you're a guy, don't have a girlfriend, and you ever want to feel like a loser, you should go to school on Valentine's Day!

EVERY year, when there's a girl that I like, I think of trying to get something for her to ask her out, and you know what really agitates me?  Some popular prick always beats me to her!  And even worse, he gets something BETTER.  And there's always some conspiracy that happens to foil my Grand Master Plan.

This morning, six morons gave me crap for just trying to go to my locker!  Yeah, well unlike those asses, I've got places to be... while they're waiting for their girlfriends.  The worst part is, they're stronger than me... and I know it... and they do to.  And they always insult me, call me a **** and are always showing off how many girls like them... and I'm sitting there alone... a walking target.  There is nothing I want more than to pound them into the ground, but I know that I'll wind up being the one to go crying home to mommy with a few teeth missing; especially when it's six on one.  They think they're so cool... I don't understand how girls love them, and they stay away from me like I have some crazy disease... and I hate it.  I get lead parts in the school musical, I'M ON T.V., I get good grades, I'm not big, I HAVE A PERSONALITY, and I'm better looking than half of them! and yet those asses always beat me... ALWAYS.  And there's nothing I can do... 'cause no one's going to believe me. And the girl I like... hell, she probably never liked me... at all.  It always happens.  I tried to keep it a secret, because the time might not be right, but I've a feeling one of her friends is on to me.  She'll find out, then my door of opportunity will close on my face... as usual.

I dread Valentine's every year... because I always go home feeling like a loser.  Then I go home and see all of those damned jewler commercials... I CAN NOT STAND IT!  I just wish this holiday never existed... it would save all of us a lot of money and energy.
