I'm posting this from MT because TV isn't functioning from work.
Hubby's surgery yesterday went well. It was over in two hours like the doctor said it would be and there weren't any complications. He was feeling great when we got home and I kept telling him that he shouldn't try to push himself, but he didn't think I knew what I was talking about because he was feeling no pain.
At about 3:00 am this morning, that changed because the block wore off and his foot started hurting. The pain meds didn't help one bit either. They weren't very strong and I figured they weren't going to work, but you never know. Hubby doesn't have a high tolerance to drugs like I do, so I guess it was possible it would work for him. Finally, we were able to get something better from the doctor and he's resting now.
I'm still at work, but I'm ready to go home and check on him. I have a few hours more to be here, though.
I don't get off work until 4:30 pm and it's only 12:24 pm.
The results of Geoffy's blood work came back and everything was normal. The retinal detachment wasn't caused by a disease. I'm so glad about that. I was really worried he'd have something fatal. I guess the retinal detachment happened because of his age. While I've had cats who've lived a good deal longer than 14 years, I know that's pretty old for a cat. He's in his early 70s or so.
He's doing really well with being blind. You'd really never know he couldn't see. A few times, he's run into the coffee table leg because hubby moved the table over just a little to prop his foot up on it, but that's about it. Once I move the table back, he doesn't have any trouble.
His hearing was superb before, but now it's bionic. I've always heard that when you lose a sense, your other senses become more acute to make up for it. I believe it now. I think he can hear us breathing when he's in a different room.
He has drops for inflammation, which he hates. He's never liked having drops put in his eyes and that hasn't changed. I have to take him back to the vet on Monday for a follow up visit, but I don't see there being any problems.
I hope everyone has a good weekend.

I'm so glad everyone is doing better. I can't imagine adapting that quickly to being blind. That's so sad. Does Geoffy want to go out less, or has he always been a "stay at home" tabby? Please be careful driving home, with this weather and these Friday drivers ... We don't want the whole family laid up.

Hey Scott. Yeah, we just have to resist any temptation to rearrange furniture permanantly. He's like me. I have a picture of our entire house in my head too. He's amazing, though. He can jump on the bed with no problem at all. Yeah, hubby is like you. Thanks for keeping them in your thoughts.
Thanks DBiz. Geoffy has been an indoor cat since he found us when he was abandoned at a year old, so there's no issue with going outside. He's been a bit frightened of what's out there since we brought him inside 13 years ago. Thank you. I will be careful driving home.

Glad to hear your hubby is doing well and has better meds.
Glad you're cat doesn't have any bad diseases. I bet there is a group on yahoo that may help with info. Abby lived to be 15. I heard about cats on my yahoo listserv that lived to be much older than Abby, and they had kidney disease! I think cats are living longer than ever.
So your internet doesn't work when you're at home? That's odd. Mine got messed up when I bumped up the speed higher than my modem could handle. A newer modem fixed the problem.

Thanks Sesho. I've had a cat who lived to 19. It just depends on the cat, I suppose. Geoffy's doing well. My internet works fine from home. I'm just pretty busy taking care of my husband when I'm here. The site doesn't function properly from work where I have more time to post, so my time here is limited.
Thanks Kadodian.
Thanks Kadodian.

That sounds like a little bit of good news, at least. My older ex-feral cat also seems to have a "been there, done that" attitude to the great out of doors. He prefers it if I go out there with him!

It is m00nshadow. Cats are pretty smart. They seem to know what they can and can't do. It doesn't surprise me that your older cat wants you there when he goes outside.
