Ashes to Ashes finally started airing here on Saturday. I liked it ok, but it's not as good as Life on Mars so far. I'm going to give it a chance, though. I really like the cast and I think it's going to turn out to be good once they get away from the main character analyzing her situation so much. It sure was a long wait for it to air here! I don't know why it took them so long. I'd started to think they'd decided not to air it here. It premiered on February 7, 2008, so we had to wait over a year for it. Just a side note, for those who aren't familiar with David Bowie's music, the blog title is a line from his song entitled Ashes to Ashes on the Scary Monsters album.

So, the site is back to not functioning properly when I'm at work which means I can only read stuff during the day. It's so frustrating. I should stop hoping it's going to work from there. At first I thought it was the site, but now I'm not so sure. It may be the blocking software they use on the network. I think that doesn't always work as it should so stuff they want blocked isn't always blocked. I think the software thinks this is a streaming site sometimes, so parts of it get blocked. At any rate, I'm posting this from MT because that site isn't blocked. If you see that I've logged in, but I haven't dealt with my queue, this is why.

I've been watching Dollhouse. I like it, but I don't love it. I think it's just a slow starter, though. The A plot is not all that strong, but the B and C plots are what have drawn me in and are keeping me interested.

Hubby is having surgery on his foot on Thursday, March 12. I don't know exactly what that means for my internet time, but I would imagine it will be reduced. He's not permitted to do much for 4 to 6 weeks until it's healed, so I'll have to do all the cooking and cleaning since he won't be able to help at all. Plus, I'll still be going to work every day.

Our rose bushes died. They got scale and they had it for so long before we figured out they had it that it killed them. Well, they weren't completely dead yet, but they had a large amount of dead wood and wood boring insects had even gotten to them. I've never seen rose bushes with lichen on them before, but it's pretty much too late for them once that happens. We were going to get new bushes Saturday and get them planted before hubby's surgery, but that didn't happen. We'll probably have to wait until next year since it's going to be too hot to plant them by the time his foot's healed. I'm sad that we lost the ones we had, but we did enjoy them while we had them. We didn't pick them either and we wouldn't have picked the ones that were chosen anyway, so maybe it's best. Now, we can pick exactly what we want instead of relying on someone else's opinion.

Geoffy (our 14 year old cat) is sick. In the last couple of days, his pupils won't contract properly. He's agitated and can't see very well. I'm worried because I've never seen this before. Hubby did some research and found it might be high blood pressure. If that's the problem, it's treatable. If something else is causing the high blood pressure, things might be worse. I sure hope it's not anything worse, but it could be since he's 14. His sister, Moochy, started getting sick last year when she was 14 and she didn't last but a few months. Anyway, hubby's taking him to the vet this afternoon and we should know more then. I just hate having to wait. It was the fastest we could get an appointment without it being an emergency. Since he's eating normally and doesn't appear to be in pain, we didn't think it was an emergency.

Hmm, this is a pretty long blog. I haven't said this much in quite awhile. I hope everyone has a good week.

Update
Hubby's back from the vet. Geoffy's completely blind due to having detached retinas. I heard cats adapt well to going blind, but I didn't realize just how well. He can still jump up on things without a problem. In fact, that's why we thought he still had some vision. We still don't know if he has a issue that caused the detached retinas, though. The vet is going to run some tests on his blood to find out and we won't have an answer until tomorrow.

Hi Al! Dollhouse is starting to grow on me. I haven't seen Ashes to Ashes yet. I watched a preview and it seems like a good watch. I hope Hubby's surgery goes ok. I now that waiting is the hardest part when a pet, member of the family really, is sick. I'll be keeping Geoffy and Hubby in my thoughts and prayers. Have a great week.

Hey Scott. Yeah, Dollhouse is starting to grow on me as well. I do recommend Ashes to Ashes despite the slightly negative comment I had for it. I think it's going to end up being a good show. It just had a bit of a slow start. I was just posting an update about Geoffy while you were posting. Thanks so much for keeping my guys in your thoughts and prayers. That means a lot.

I love Dollhouse but it took 3 episodes for it to happen. Good luck on Hubby's surgury! I'm sorry about Geoffy... but at least it doesn't seem that bad for cats to be blind.

I never got a chance to watch Life on Mars. I'm a big LLOST fan, though.

how did you become a moderator?

Life On Mars is fantastic, it's a crime they're cancelling it, just a criminal act. I hope the hubster doesn't drive you too crazy while he's laid up, it'll be tough on the whole team. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. But, poor Geoffy! Is there any hope for healing? I'm so sorry. You're such a nice person and you're having a tough time all around right now. If any of your friends here can pick up any slack for you here, please just say so. Hugs for you, the hubby and Geoffy .,. John

Sorry to hear about your cat...I've heard that they adapt as well though it was the caveat that it depends on the cat's age and personality...I think Dollhouse, sadly, is headed for non-renewal but then again, I thought Hole in the Wall would have been cancelled long ago so what do I know?...have a great week!

Nice to hear from you. A lot has been happening in your world these days. All the best to hubby with his surgery. You are going to be a very busy lady in the coming weeks!

Thanks 12678. Yes, cats do seem to adapt to blindness quite well. You'd never know anything was wrong with Geoffy's vision except that he's a little more hesitant about doing some things now than he was before.

You missed an excellent show, Travo_basic. I don't watch Lost. I tried, but couldn't get into it.

DBizTV, that's the wrong LoM. I'm talking about the UK version. I don't like the US version. Thank you about hubby and Geoffy. There's no way to repair detached retinas, so he'll never regain his sight. I'm just hoping there's nothing severe wrong with him such as renal failure. And thanks so much for offering to help us. I really appreciate that.

Thanks mari. As long as we don't rearrange the furniture and things should be ok. It's funny because that's one of the first things I said to hubby when he called me and the vet had told him that. Sadly, I think you're right about Dollhouse, but I'll keep watching it until it's gone.

I guess I am sort of busy these days, Karl. Thanks about hubby.

Aw, your poor kitty. Hope he and Hubby are well and good soon.

A2A gets better and better. The season finale is a knock-out!

AtoA definitely was a bit dippier than the original's premiere. Hopefully it will settle into a nice rhythm now. And I detest the "Next..." scenes at every commercial break. Do they have so little confidence that the audience will stick around that they feel they have to huckster us at every break?

Thanks fatfreeoreos.

I'v heard that TOB. I plan to keep watching it.

I hear you Jekyll. They also did that with LoM and I wish they wouldn't.

Hello. Wow, it sounds like your plate is full, and not in a good way. More like an overcooked lima beans and dry, gristly pork chops way. So sorry to hear about your kitty. Hope the underlying cause is not too serious. I have some pictures on my blog of two of my kitties doing some close-up squirrel watching that you might enjoy. I'm still up in the air on Dollhouse, but as a huge Buffy & Angel fan, my expectations were HIGH. By the way, I love your user name, even if it confuses some. My favorite line from Angel: If we're talking projects, pal, you were the Sistine Chapel!

Hi m00nshadow. It is overfull that way. *sigh* We heard from the vet and Geoffy's bloodwork came back normal, so he doesn't appear to have any disease which caused the retinal detachment. I would guess it just happened due to age. I have to take him for a follow up visit on Monday just to be sure he's ok, though. I saw your pictures. They're very cute. Here's to hoping we have more time with Dollhouse to decide if we like it or not. Thanks about my user name. I couldn't decide between the two characters so I chose both.

hey...I saw that you had made a new blog on my friend's blog. I hope your husband's surgery goes great and that he recovers fast. My thoughts also for your cat, Geoffy. My oldest cat, Tabitha, is 13 years old. I am also having to take my youngest cat, Hook, to the vet today. I will keep keep your husband and your cat in my prayers.

Thanks so much, scatha_guardian. I really appreciate it. I hope everything is ok with Tabitha. I'm sending good thoughts her way.

Wow--I guess I missed all your news! I hate that our lists only show 3 blogs. I miss so many blogs that way.

Sorry to hear about all your woes. What causes detached retinas in cats?
Posted Mar 13, 2009 7:20 pm PT
Thanks Sesho. I guess many things can cause detached retinas. It seems to be about like it is with people. I think it happened to Geoffy due to his age.
