Part one of my favorite games can be found here

6. Braid

Braid Boxshot

I never would have thought something released for the Xbox Live Arcade would be so amazing. The premise of the story is you're out to save the princess, but with a twist. The story has a real-life approach rather than fantasy, and it focuses on human qualities and is open to interpretation. The gameplay is equally unique; you control time to collect puzzle pieces. I guess it'd be categorized as a puzzle platformer, but each challenge really gets you thinking without becoming frustrating. The game looks great and features some of the best video game music I've ever heard. I think anyone with a 360 should definitely download this game.

5. Resistance 2

Resistance 2 Boxshot

Despite difficulty problems and the lack of co-op for the main campaign, Resistance 2 is an excellent FPS. I think it vastly improves on the first game with better pacing and a lot BIGGER battles and enemies. The weapons are great again in the sequel, and the story has improved a bit. I love the competitive online play, but the new co-op mode is what I've been having the most fun with. The soldier, medic, and spec-ops are all fun to play with, and when you get a good team, it's easy to have a blast.

4. Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles Boxshot

When I first heard about this game, I didn't think much about it because of my lack of interest in strategy RPGs. But after hearing so much positive feedback at the RPG Temple, I thought why not give it a try. I'm so glad I did. Being able to control each of your units in a third person mode adds a twist to the usual SRPG formula and keeps things interesting. One of my favorite things about the game is how you level up an entire clases rather than focusing on individual units, that always bothered me in other SRPGs. The story is great with a cast of likeable characters and artistically this is one of the best looking games I've played. A must own for any RPG fan/PS3 owner.

VC is a sure pick up for me, but I have been contemplating much about Braid. Played the demo and it was pretty amazing. It's just that at 1200 points, it's not the cheapest game. Plus, I am waiting for the new Puzzle Quest game. I tend not to buy these arcade games as it's easy to spend overboard when you don't see the money!

*cry* other than the Braid demo which I did rather enjoy yet again these aren't any titles I have tried or had much of an interest in, in the first place. Still. I await your top 3.

I think VC could fly under the radar as one of the best games of the year. I am kind of hoping it makes the best of 2008 list anyway!

I played the demo for Braid and though it was very good. Maybe once I finish some of the games in my queue now I'll have to pick it up. Other than that, good choices here!

Of these 3 R2 would be of the most interest to me - if I had a PS3

Why do I never see you online for Resistance 2? What's a shame with that game now is EVERYONE is a damn medic or spec ops, and the sad thing is, the medics all suck compared to me. Yes, medics all suck compared to me and can't keep me alive as a soldier, and spec ops constantly go Rambo and get smoked.

Now that everyone has a level 30 of some sort, things need to get tweaked for this game to keep coop viable. I mean the single player had some great production, but it was really damn hard and lack of coop hurts.

Good choice with Valkyria Chronicles up there. Too bad many people are going to miss it. Never played Braid.

@Lightfellower: The price is a bit more than the usual Live Arcade game, but I think it's definitely worth it. And the game doesn't feel too short because of the challenge of figuring out how to get each puzzle piece. I'm also really looking forward to the new Puzzle Quest game.
@Mangaminx: I know you'll be pleased with my #3 pick.
@Paully3433: Yeah, VC certainly did fly under the radar. I'm sure it will be on a lot of best of the year lists from many publications.
@Garrison Ford: Yeah, Braid would be a good purchase after you finish up some other games.
@celtic1962: It seems to me like now is a great time to get a PS3, I think the exclusives they got this year (Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, VC, etc.) are a lot stronger than the 360's. But there have been other great games, such as Dead Space which I know you enjoyed.
@SemiMaster: I've only been playing VC on my PS3 lately, but I'll start throwing in some Resistance 2 online soon. That sucks about the soldier situation, I'd think more people would want to be that. Maybe they'll have a patch or something soon to change some things.

I've heard great things about VC...mostly from Templites.

I've kinda halted in VC....too much WoW.

You added VC? Ha! Nice choice, and one i didn't think you would make!

It seems like most soldiers I've seen play lately are all level 30, and no one else would be one unless... well they just won't so I've been toughing it out.

Valkyria Chronicles is a big game that I didn't see making me wanting to buy a PS3. It should be nominated for GOTY.

I want you to know how proud I am of you for having VC in there Anthony. For me, I would say that it is definitely RPG of the year.

Haven't played Braid or Resistance 2. You know I don't care much for shooters, so it takes a lot to move me. I am keeping an eye on Killzone 2 though.
