I idolize Rebecca Locke. Worship the ground she walks on...which makes me a strange, strange girl since she's just a character. But that isn't really the point. She's the best crime fighting female character there is...the Clarice Starling of TV. She's undeniably beautiful, yet flawed. She saves herself instead to waiting for someone else to save her. In other words, she's no damsel in distress waiting for her night in shining armor to rescue her.
There's a golden rule for women characters in crime dramas. They must have had a past where they were victims, whether it be abusive parents, foster care, abandonment, abduction, a murdered friend/family member or abduction. Rebecca Locke is no exception - but her past makes her stronger and a compelling character.
