I really need to do something about my percentage again, I never submit anything so my level never goes anywhere! I really ought to blog/comment/read other people's blogs more...
Anyway, yes, I have been back from uni just over a week. The last week I was there was 'May Week'. This is a week (in June!) when there are lots of balls and garden parties in Cambridge. The balls last all night, literally, starting at about 9, finishing at 6am when they have a 'survivors' photo'. It's really strange to be outside and walking around in a ballgown at 4am, when it's actually daylight. Who knew. But it's great fun. I worked at one May Ball - I went to the ball for the first half and then spent a very tiring and quite depressing second half picking up glasses and bottles and rubbish. You wouldn't believe how many drinks people can get through, seriously. And VK orange is obviously not very nice because people like to start drinking it and leave the half empty bottles lying around everywhere for me to tip out and spill on my shoes/clothes. The shoes I worked in actually smelled like a pub afterwards!!! But it was worth it for the first half of the ball.
I also did a couple of concerts with the choirs I am in, in one I did a solo, conquering a long-term phobia of mine (somebody told me I couldn't sing when I was about 7 which destroyed any confidence I had - NEVER TELL ANYONE THEY CAN'T SING UNLESS YOU ARE COMPLETELY SURE ABOUT IT.)
So the last week I have been sleeping, shopping, being fed proper food, etc. I also had to have four results days this year owing to the way that my results are released (a bit complicated to explain!). The last one was on Wednesday, the results come up on a computer system you can access from home - this one told me my degree class for the year - I got a first, which was quite a surprise, and I was convinced it must be wrong for quite a while! I didn't think I'd done enough work to do that, but I actually got firsts in all my papers (though not all the components of the papers), which was lovely, and my score was 13 points clear of the boundary. I'm not sure what my rank in the year was yet though. However, this means I am going to be expected to repeat that next year! :S However, getting a first means I get nice privileges like going to the top of the room ballot, reduced vacation rent, free meals, more money, etc. So I'm very happy (and still quite shocked) about it. ![]()
This summer I will be going to Dublin for a couple of weeks, starting next Saturday, and then I am working Mon-Fri in an office for quite a bit, so I may not be around so much during the day, but I will be here for the spoilers! And I will of course be reading Harry Potter 7.
Comments
I think next time you might be better off working at the ball for the first half, and enjoying it for the second half - that way everyone will get gradually worse behaved and you can look forward to joining in
Have a nice holiday!
Shana - Everybody wants to work the second shift so they pull names out of a hat! And people don't get *that* badly behaved, these things cost money and they want to remember it the next day!!!!
Thanks for the comments everyone.
