I have in the past shared my ill views about Microsoft and its flawed piece of crap of a system called the Xbox 360. To be fair, not only MS console has it shares of issues but Sony's mighty PS3 as well. My PS3 - which I've had purchased via Amazon.com, July 31st, 2007 - has finally broken to an unknown issue. Basically, though I've been using it as often as I could by playing old games and WarHawk - my only PS3 game at that time - it suddenly failed on me during my early online play sessions with Call of Duty 4. I have yet to play the game to its fullest and out of no where it shut off and it died completely on my third try, trying to play the game.
Thankfully, I haven't had any issues with Sony's customer support and I should be getting it replaced once the box comes in within 3 to 4 business days. If one should google or search issues with Call of Duty 4 crashing PS3s you will notice that I am not the only once that had this problem.
My technical problems aside, I don't understand why these next gen systems are so bloody fragile. My Super Nintendo, Playstation, Playstation 2, and Dreamcast are still alive and kicking today without console issues. I never ever once in my life call customer technical support to have these last gen systems replaced or repaired. And it is a bloodly shame that I went on my third Xbox 360 and now I am going to have my PS3 replaced.
I am very pessimistic about this generation of game consoles. These consoles are expensive, unreliable, and fragile, even the games are ridiculously over charged and lack the quality and content in packaging. I have to see why games should cost so much as they do now. I could understand Sony charging a little extra because Blue Ray is a new format but why do we have to pay extra for MS dvd format?
I really hope my replaced PS3 works like a charm because I chose that system for its share system quality and longevity, but it is behaving so closely to MS junk of a system. Sony please ease my pain and give me a working system...I am being patient so don't let my loyality go to waste. I've had spent over 10,000 buying your products, please don't disappoint..
I am a Sony fanboy, more or less, I have a sentimental spot for Sony. I used to curse the hell out of the system back in the late 1990s with its inferior graphics compared to the mighty Nintendo 64 but the innovations in Final Fantasy art and story direction converted me to a Sony believer. I have been a Sony loyalist since that day and today, despite owning an Xbox 360 and playing the hell out of Halo 3. And that is the problem. Why aren't I playing the hell out of my PS3? I can't say PS3 has no games because there are games, tons of them, but there Xbox 360 ports that are months old. The problem I am having with Sony is, there are hardly any exclusive games and the games that are being ported to the PS3 or multiplatform, takes ages to reach the system shelves. Many of us have at least a Sony PS3 and a MS Xbox 360, or all 3 systems. Having said that, though we Sony fans want to support PS3 if a game comes out for Xbox 360 first and it will take a month or so to reach PS3 side, we either buy it for the 360 than wait a few good weeks for it.
It's like 2am here in NYC and I don't have the strenght to give this blog any more meat on its bones. But what I would like to say that MS despite its infamous red ring of death with its consoles, had a great hear. Halo 3 established unprecedented ground with unit sale and game user based. It just really had a good year as one of the best consoles of this generation. I can't say how 2008 going to favor for MS since most of its killer titles are already out, maybe they have to create another exclusive franchise to maintain the momentum. But what it has that Sony is lacking is a huge user base that is loyal to the very end...Congrats MS...
From since the underwhelming day of its launch the Sony PS3 has been known infamously for its lack of content, overly priced console, and bad businesses moves from the boys of Sony. Yes Sony made a lot of silly mistakes and they arrogance has crippled their systems reputation and pride of Sony loyalist.
Conversely, Sony is learning from its mistakes - they redeem themselves by befriending immersion once again to devise the new motion rumble controller. They're currently tweaking Sony's XMB and its online to counter or mirror Xbox360's live model. And the games are coming - Heavenly Sword, Rachet and Clank, and War Hawk - hopefully those games would rate well and give us someting to sink our starving teeth into.
However, companies like EA and Ubi Soft not giving sony much love; instead understanding the merits of the system they giving us some crappy ports that are ruining the PS3 reputation. I don't think PS3 is inferior to Xbox360, I think it is the other way around. I remembered vividly the early generation games of the infamous 360, they didn't look much next gen to me, thanks to Gears of War, it change a light for MS. However, it still has an infamous reputation in my book. The 360 is trash, hardware wise, and what is happening is a lot of 360 purist are switching to Sony because of MS poor customer service and the quality of the console.
I believe game like Grand turismo 5 and FF13 will influence the many to convert to Sony and show game publishers that Sony Ps3 is a sleeping beast waiting to awake. I can't wait...Can you?
