Funny Moment in Science

I just got back from the optometrist. In my defense, I shall use the quote:

Glasses are for cool people.

We were discussing black holes in science yesterday. You know that these days, just saying the word 'black' is considered racist(it's just a widely known joke). Here's the dialogue:

me: Hmmm...Black holes.
Louis: Stop being so racist.
me: Fine. "African American" holes.
Louis: Uh...
me: If there are "African American" holes, do you think that there are "Caucasian" holes?
Louis: Never mind.
(10 minutes later)
Carey: I'm just trying to answer the questions about black holes.
me: *gasp*
Dario: Stop being so racist Carey!
me: I know! We call them African American holes!
Dario: Don't you mean African holes?
me: Maybe.
Dario: So racist...

Disclaimer:

That whole incident was not intentionally racist. It's just that many things are considered racist these days and people in my grade like to overreact more than others these days.

Also, if anyone I know happens to read this, I didn't do it!!!

gotta get back to my stupid homework...

Black holes are cool. It just a name of an object that doesn't relate to African Americans. I don't see how it can offend them. I don't want to be racist either. I don't like racism.

sluggmunki_tx: agreed. hmm, last time i checked the words "black hole" were the only words used to describe such a phenomenon, so the thought of it being racist is absurd.....how can a scientific term used to describe disturbances in quantum singularity a racist thing?

I know, there are lots of things you can't say nowadays for fear of being racist, when in fact they're really not. I hate racism, but some people let it go too far. But still..."African American Holes"
