Jack Thompson, infamous anti-video game crusader, aims to block Halo 3's release in Florida by having it declared a "public nuisance ". If the court decides to take his case, and decides to rule in his favor, both Best Buy and Microsoft would be prohibited from selling Halo 3.
Why is Halo 3 a public nuisance? I quote from jacks official complaint:
"Halo 3 is a video game that allows the virtual reality player to rehearse violent acts resulting in the death of one's virtual victims. Lee Boyd Malvo, the younger of the two "DC Beltway Snipers" was trained on Halo to kill residents within Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. His "mentor," John Muhammad, knew the efficacy of the first Halo video game in this regard, because the Army in which he served used this same murder simulator to train snipers to kill. Malvo learned well on Halo."
Why Jack Thompson devotes himself so whole-heartedly into the persecution of rising media forms is beyond me. Poetry, television, movies, rock, and more recently, rap, have all faced similar charges of corrupting the minds of our youth. If the past is any indicator, as the years go on, this newer generation will forget the fervent hatred of people like Jack Thompson. For now though, we just have to weather the storm of immaturity that is Jack Thompson
