This year I am kind of dissappointed with myself. Last year I volunteered at St. Vincents church in the city feeding the homeless dinner. My niece and nephew was there too and looked forward to this year and was very disappointed that I did not call in time to reserve us a spot to do it this year. I promised that on Monday, after the Thanksgiving holiday, I will call and make plans for both Christmas day and New Years day. My niece was the most disappointed because she wanted to see if people who was there last year was still around, to be able to see if they had gotten any help and was able to get out of the situation that they were in.
I have to say that it is a good feeling to serve them and watch them eat. Seeing the smiles on their faces and the way they interact with one another. It's like seeing a little community come together and speak about things that are going on with them. I am not saying that it is all peaches and cream, there were a few of the homeless that did not get a long with each other but it was easy to defuse the situation by saying that it was the holidays and we should all try and get along. It did not do much other than stop them from arguing.
I encourage every gamer to do the same when it come to helping out the homeless or even better if you know other gamer that live close to you, get together and go as a group. Let them know that you are from the gaming community so they know that gamers care to.
