Before the Playstation 3 was ever announced I doubt anyone thought we would have to question the success of Sony's Playstation brand. Somehow, someway Sony blew the successer of the most popular video game console in history. While still early, I think it is clear that Sony has their hands full with this console race. If they somehow manage to win this one, it wont be nearly as dominating a preformance as in the past. Right now Playstation 3 is a clear #3 in the console war. Losing massivly to both the 360 and the Wii. Nintendo's new innovative console is on pace to remove Playstation 2's title of the best selling console of all time, while the 360 is doing succesfull with the image of the "real gamer's console". Playstation holds in third with nothing but Bluray, a consumer friendly brand name, and the hope of a better future. So where does Sony go from here? They may have made some questionable desicions with Playstation 3 in the past, but there is plenty to look forward to up ahead for the Sony faithful.

2008 promises to build on the successful note 2007 ended with. Playstation 3 sales soared in december '07. As the install base of the Playstation 3 rises, developer support seems to be increasing as well. 2008 also will provide many blockbuster games for the PS3. Devil May Cry 4, Haze, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 2, Final Fantasy XIII, along with possible late 2008 releases of SOCOM: Confrontation, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Resistance 2, and Motorstorm 2 insure that by 2009 the Playstation 3 will be sitting with a very impressive lineup that will hopefully rival the Xbox 360. Some non-game support of the Playstation 3 will come in the form of firmware updates and new periphrials for the Playstation. To be added to Playstation software this year is Playstation's new online network: HOME. Home promises to be an innovative way to interact online with other players and hieghten the so-far questionable Playstation online experience. One more ace in the hole for Sony: The Dualshock 3. Rumble support will be brought back early this year with the release of Sony's new controller, which will support both Sixaxis and rumble features. Things are not as bad as they seem Playstation fans. While Playstation might not be dominant, they have a good lineup for things to come.

I admit PS3 struggled when it first launched, but I believe that this year PS3 will have an outstanding year. I really hope developer support starts to pick up this year for the PS3 and it starts to become the lead platform for some multiplatform games. I'm no fanboy; I own a 360 as well, but I can say that the PS3 lineup has way more to offer this year compared to the 360 lineup. Only time will tell for the PS3.
