(((MY VIEWS)))

Since that skit aired, the Media has gone bonkers, debates from TV to Newspapers, Radio to Online. 'Hey Hey, It's Saturday' is a popular show here which began in 1971 and went 27 years and in 2009 it came back for a 2 episodes 'Reunion Special', The Show was always Hilarious, witty and just plain Fun -

But not this time, The 'Blackface' Skit was neither funny nor witty, It was pethetic and had offended many people which is undertstanable.

But what got me was all the attention and the slamming of our country slammed as 'Racist', I mean why be so extreme, Im not saying Racism is here, i know because i have been a victim to it several times, But this is was a skit passed on by Stupid producers who did'nt know what they were doing in a TV Show, The show does'nt represent the whole Country, Does that mean the whole of Australia is 'Racist', I mean come on....

Did the skit offend you?

Was it Racist?

Acceptable or Unacceptable?

The sketch certainly looks unfortunate, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it racist and I wouldn't certainly extend it to the whole country. I dunno if Harry is a hypocrite, I don't think I have enough to judge but I think he should have been a bit more cautious in his judgement. Have a great weekend. Hugs

I wouldn't go as far as 2 call it racist. And it certainly does not mean the whole country.

Ive heard this ALL over the news, I havent really had a chance to check out the skit yet but I mean I definitly find it inappropriate, I would NEVER go as far to call all austrailians racists tho. It just really sucks that issues like this still come up everyday. People really need to start thinking before they act...especially on live tv.

Harry was portraying a WHITE southern preacher there was no black face in his case and it was blown out of proportion. As for the Aussies I guess it's a cultural thing do non-whites in Australia have a history of being mocked in such a fashion? If not then no big deal but here in America that black face means something negative.

I didnt hear anything about it. I wouldnt play the race card so soon.

I never think of it as racist. It reminds me of Al Jolson in blackface in "The Jazz Singer".

Terrible comedy but certainly not racist. And as for Reverend Harry Connick. Jr, i think his "buffoon" comment was more offensive. Thanks, abdullah.

I'm not sure about racist, but it certainly wasn't funny.

I haven't watched the video yet. But I read somewhere that the Jackson Jive performers had originally done this skit on the show during the seventies, and they were asked to perform it again for this special show revival. That doesn't make it right, but it does give some better context. It shows what was acceptable in the seventies isn't so acceptable today. I do wonder though, if Harry hadn't said anything, would anyone else have complained? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have played well here in the states.

boom-moo - A very good arguenment, I agree, I wouldnt say it's racist aswell more a silly event that should not have happened passed on by dumb producers. I wouldnt say he is a Hypocrite aswell though he shouldnt be so Judgemental, given the fact he isnt so innocent himself. Have a good weekedn you too, Hugs back

brandonfrench - Very true, and in no way the whole country should'nt be judged on this.
Posted Oct 9, 2009 9:32 pm PT
dool_girl - Very true, It's National TV, they should very careful, It sure does suck when you get a group of idiots who do this pethetic skit which then reflects the country.

danharr - I read many reports saying he had a black face and was mocking a preacher, It looks like that in the video aswell. -- I Understood completely why many were offended due to non-whites in America years back were mocked in this way, But no it never occured in Australia, But still it's very innapproatiate and i hope i never see this kind of thing again in my country or anywhere else.

Water78 - Thats weird, the media were all over it, I agree the intention was not to be racist. thanks
Posted Oct 9, 2009 9:40 pm PT
angeldeb82 - Well, many have different thoughts on that, but this kind of behaiviour also offends alot of people. thanks

oceanic6 - Terrible skit indeed. LOOOL, he shouldnt be so judgemental because he wasnt so innocent himself. thanks
Posted Oct 9, 2009 9:43 pm PT
Jon_MW_14 - Not funny indeed. thanks
Posted Oct 9, 2009 9:43 pm PT
tuckgraph - That is true, The same group had performed back in the 70's and it was accpetable then but now Look the Outrage, The producers probaly thought it will play out well again, How dumb are they? This is the 21st Centruy and we live in such a mulicultural country, It's just not accpetable, the intention probaly wasnt to offend but they should've known better. -- I have some American friends and they the same thing, They said the outrage it caused would have not been like this in the US if Connick Jr. didnt say anything, Make me wonder. thanks

I don't think it was racist and it was just taken out of hand. It's ridiculous that one little act can affect an entire country's reputation and I blame both the Americans and Australians for blowing everything up, no offense.
Posted Oct 9, 2009 9:58 pm PT
xlovedust - No offence taken i agree with you fully, Why make something so much bigger than it is, It was racist to some but srs I think it was just a silly thing that should not have happended. thanks

sikits like that don't offend me, i take them purely as entertainment.
Posted Oct 10, 2009 2:07 am PT
GiX_MiX - Yeah many people would take it the same way. thanks
Posted Oct 10, 2009 2:32 am PT
It's been mas$ive news. I think that the media are just going overboard with it and are making a big deal out of it. I don't think it was racist really. America however would view it as racist so I think a lot of people are divided by what's happened.

Nothing racist about blackface. It was commonplace in films of the 20s and 30s. I wouldn't really say he was a hypocrite. Maybe he just had a change of heart since then.
Posted Oct 10, 2009 10:32 am PT
That's the media for you. They are always quick to paint someone as being racist if they don't believe what the media wants them to believe.
Posted Oct 10, 2009 10:40 am PT
I agree it wasn't funny at all but being "racist" i think it a bit to far...

XO XO

casabonita83 - I think the media has gone overboard on this story aswell. -- Well, i wouldnt view it as racist but it's very inapproatiate and i do i understand why many would be offended. thanks

Woolsey - Really? I read some stuff online and reports saying that Blackface was meant to offend and mock Blackpeople. -- I wouldnt say he is hypocrite but he was too judgemental. thanks
Posted Oct 10, 2009 3:20 pm PT
DemonSlayerZea - That is very true, The Media always makes a small controversy into a huge one. thanks
Posted Oct 10, 2009 3:22 pm PT
LadyInque - That is true, though i would understand why many people were offended. thanks
Posted Oct 10, 2009 3:23 pm PT
I didn't hear about this, but it doesn't seem that racist. It isn't funny though. I don't think it's right to blame all of Australia though. Blaming all of Australia would be racist since not every Australian is like this. And I don't know Harry well.
Posted Oct 10, 2009 4:42 pm PT
1MMfan - Man it was all over media. -- Yeah most people have said it was racist which i agree on but understanbly it did offend many people. -- Very true, There are many racists here but there is everywhere in the world, most are too ignorant to change but blaming the country is just pethetic. thanks
Posted Oct 10, 2009 11:01 pm PT
everyone should. because that is purely for entertainment!
Posted Oct 11, 2009 1:17 am PT
GiX_MiX - Well, i agree with in some way, Usually this show is pretty good i love it though this skit was'nt so entertaining. thanks
Posted Oct 11, 2009 1:23 am PT
I haven't heard of it before, but it probably wasnt racist.
Posted Oct 11, 2009 1:15 pm PT
sarahsaurus - Yeah i would say it wasnt racist aswell but it did offend many. thanks
