Okay, I just want to rant here. You know, just about ten years ago, kids come home from after school and watch some decent after hours of studies, stations like Fox and WB gave out shows that anyone could enjoy. But fast forward to today, Fox and WB gave up the after school timeslot for reality TV shows, court TV, and Talk Shows, leaving kids to wait for Saturday for some good shows.
I'm pretty much in college now, but even I missed the old days. And let's face it, today's TV kid generation have it hard. I mean, you got to have ToonDisney just to watch the Power Rangers! I remember when Fox (before selling out to Disney) used to air their show in the mornings, after school, and then on Saturday mornings. I also remember that old USA Cartoon Express, where they aired classics like Ghostbusters and Dinosaucers. The 80's and early 90's were a great time to be a kid. But then, slowly one by one, all of the kids timeslots got canned. Heck, ABC Family just stop their Saturday morning shows without remorse. ToonDisney has too many of their 'new' shows on the air that they pushed back the more than half of their classics shows, unlike Cartoon Network's 'Boomerang' channel (which I can only watch when I visit family), who properly take care of the balance of new and classic shows.
Today, there is decent number of good shows, but I feel like some of them are underprivileged. Legion of Superheroes, for example, may not be the best show around, but it is entertaining. But I feel like if WB still had it after school program or gave the show at least a few more episodes instead of the standard '13 episodes per season' rule, everyone could really enjoy it. I mean, have you seen the number of episodes in 'Batman: The Animated' series' first season, or the episodes of Dinosaucers? Those shows actually had a chance to shine. I mean, most animes today have over the top story arcs that take more than 13 episodes to without really reaching the halfway point. I believe that most shows need time and a budget to make, but I feel lately that most producers are going cheap and are not willing to cough up.
Still, I'm probably just wasting my time complaining for something I can't change, but still, it's a way to vent steam. What do you guys say?
