Probably one of the most underrated works on Brooks. This is really what I feel to be one of his best ones. The humor is very well done but a little "out there" (pretty typical of Brooks' movies). Small things like short monologues to the camera and very literal meanings of commonly used phrases make it pretty edgy. Overall, its just a really light-hearted and entertaining movie that you can just sit down with and have a few laughs.

Its what the movie is about. You can't argue that. The whole psychological part about life being so valuable and what not was pretty interesting, but I think at least, that Jigsaw, especially in this one, is really too much of a hipocrite on this subject (hey, trying to kill myself made we want to kill other people too ya know. Really!) to make it something that really made me want to care.
Anyway, to the gore and violence. Incinerating, blowing holes in heads, head-spike traps, needles (lots of needles!), wood spikes, electricity; theres a whole lot. I will say, the traps were cleverly designed though and definitely gives that kind of cringe factor.
I have to give it some credit. It really produces a really creepy atmosphere: not a typical horror one, but just the feeling of being confined and not being able to escape (also, how the HELL does he make a practically armored house? I don't care if hes got that girl helping, that would take a lot of work).

I was honestly expecting a little more than this really delivered. The original "28 Days Later" was absolutely phenomenal and I loved every minute of it. There was just something about the way it was put together and executed that gave it more depth than this. Along with characters, I really didnt like how this seemed to go along with some of the generic "stupid people" you seem to find in many sub-par horror movies. The first one really built up the characters well and they weren't that...well, stupid. In this it seemed to have that "hey, I think I'll either just sit here and do nothing or go and do something really stupid" (kissing an infected person, sitting there screeching about your brother, "hey, lets watch my psychotic infected dad take a chunk out of my brother while i hold this high powered assault rifle", "hey, i just saw that happen so now I'll assume nothing happened")
It also seemed a little more into the gore/"action" aspect more than a horror-survival feel of the last one (more blowing up zombies and people with helicopters and what not). Thats not to say it was totally bad. Like before, the story was pretty interesting (as far as along the lines of the rage infection goes). Good acting and some pretty neatly done scenes, such as how it was done in the subway tunnel. I also thought the ending, while a little confusing, was pretty neat and it definetly looks like it will lead up to another sequel (hopefully a little more like the first).
Anyway, still pretty good. I look forward to the next one assuming they make one.
