Yay! Animal Crossing comes out this weekend and I simply cannot wait to get it. I'm currently watching the marathon and it's making me crazy cause I don't have it yet. If you are someone who doesn't like this game, then there's something wrong with you. ![]()
So, 3 months ago to the day I blogged about getting a new MacBook Pro because I had grown tired of dealing with Windows. Now that I've had a chance to use it pretty much every day for the last 90ish days have my thoughts about it changed? Not in the least!
I'm loving my MacBook Pro! I've only had one single issue with it and that was I somehow managed to lock up the dock. But OSX new to simply terminate and restart it and with that I continued working. If it were Windows I would have had more issues by now and whenever something crashes in Windows, 9 times out of 10 it requires a restart. So I'm happy with that.
One of the many things I'm loving is the stability. Wow, if you were to tell me (back before I had a Mac) that you can keep your computer on for a week straight only allowing it to go to sleep while you weren't using it and on the 7th day of the week OSX would be running as if you just turned it on I would call you a liar! But, now that I've actually experienced it myself I would humbly ask for your forgiveness.
I'm also loving the software that comes with OSX. See, I recently got married, and because of the software that came with my Mac I was able to sit down with all the photos that were taken (digital photos that is), create an album, add some clever clips of text, send off for printing, and receive a week later a hardcover photo album with all the pictures of my wedding (as well as some really nice thank you cards we will be sending out) without even leaving the house.
Call me lazy but I found that to be pretty sweet considering it came, for free I'll add once more, with my Mac. Not to mention, if I were to go to a print shop to do the same, not only would I not be able to be involved with the process, but I probably would have spent 2x the amount I did doing it myself.
The only draw back to switching to a Mac is that you have to re-learn how to use a keyboard, sort of. See, if you're like me and barely touch your mouse to do things then there are a lot more adjustments you have to make when switching to a Mac because keyboard shortcuts are very different. Well, the alpha keys are the same of course, but they modifiers are different such as to copy in Windows it's 'Control-C' while in OSX it's 'Command-C'. Once you've learned the differences, that's only half the battle, you then have to get used to the layout of the modifiers.
That's my story so far, and I have a feeling my opinion won't be changing anytime soon. ![]()
I was sitting at my desk earlier this week and I realized that I've grown tired of dealing with Windows and all the problems that come with using it. Every 6 months I was reformatting just to keep it going smoothly. And even at that, within a month it would already slow down to a crawl because of everything running in the background such as Internet security program, backup utility, Version Cue, etc. I currently have a laptop running Windows XP which has more then adequate specs to run all my software so that's not the issue.
So, with that, I considered just getting a new Windows machine thinking I just need more power. However, the thought of using Windows Vista just disgusts me. I've used it at work plenty to know that I absolutely don't like it. I even gave it another chance when SP1 came out but my experience with Vista just wasn't a good one. So, that just wasn't an option for me.
Not wanting to spend a lot of money in the past, I even gave Linux a spin. While my experience with Linux was a great one, it just didn't work as well as I need it to. For instance, Flash has some issues such as no support for transparent backgrounds and that caused some websites to look very odd! And it doesn't support Office 2007 documents at the moment, so that left me locked out of my documents basically.
So at this point, I figured it was time to bite the bullet and fork over the money for a MacBook Pro. The cost really was the only thing keeping me from owning a Mac. But, after a month of thinking about all the pros and cons of a Mac I realized that there's a reason why they are so expensive. So it was easier to justify the cost of one and I went ahead and customized and ordered one. Here's what I got:
- MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen
- 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- 4GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2×2GB
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB
- 200GB Serial ATA @ 7200 rpm
So yeah, it's a beast of a machine, and it should arrive on Tuesday. So I will report more on my initial experience. Until then, I will be backing up all my data for migration.
