beans

According to LeonMorado, beans are underappreciated in this country. Is that really true? I love beans of all shapes and sizes. Maybe it's just because I'm a vegetarian and rely on them for most of my protein intake, but I eat beans all the time and in all sorts of different ways, and I think they rock.

Hummus, black bean soup, burritos, green bean casserole...all of these things would be impossible without the little devils. Plus, "bean" is a fun name to call people you like. Try it. "Hey, you cute bean-bug-girlie..." (that's what my mom calls me, but it's still fun to say to anybody else.)

Sure, they're not the snazziest food. They cause gas, after all. And they're really inexpensive (which is a huge bonus, but fancypants might find that distasteful. *nose in air* "Oh, I don't eat anything that's less than $50 a can.") But, c'mon! They're tasty, nutritious, filling, and they're really cute when you sit down and look at them. Look at garbanzo beans! There's a reason they're also called chickpeas. Chickpeas really do look like chicks! It's adorable!

Anyway, what's your opinion on beans?

I don't eat beans. Never have, and more than likely, never will.

You know i don't like beans cause the last time I ate them they tasted to much like peas which I hate with a passion. In fact the only kind I've eaten are jelly beans and I'm pretty sure that doesn't count.

Beans, beans good for the heart. The more you eat, the more you... Beans are good.

What?! You guys, beans are tasty and delicious!! ...Okay, I guess you're allowed to hate them. Also, Could? I'll count jellybeans.

I like beans. Baked beans, bean dip, and stuff of the sort. I like 'em. Except for lima beans, I don't like those. But most others I do like.

Did somebody say jellybeans? Where are they?! Lol I've always liked beans and bean products, I don't know why they get such a bad rap. Now cauliflower on the other hand, there is an evil food

I like cauliflower...

Brodoin: Why not lima beans, out of curiosity? I'm not really sure if I like 'em or not, but there are a lot of people that seem to dislike them, and I've always wondered why.

Lights: You and your jellybeans! Beans are awesome, yeah yeah. So why do you hate cauliflower?

I just don't like the taste, is all. Taste funny to me. I'm not picky when it comes to food, I like all sorts: meats, plants, seafoods, grains, etc. Lima beans are just one of the few I don't like. Other then taste I don't really know why else I don't like them. Jellybeans are good. Orange is my favourite flavour. My dad likes buttered popcorn jellybeans. lol Not a bad flavour though, to be honest.

For pretty much the same reason Brodoin doesn't like lima beans, their taste just doesn't appeal to me. But to be fair I always try a food before I say I don't like it. And popcorn jellybeans are awesome. Most jellybeans are, I just hope they never come out with a cauliflower flavored one

Beans be tasty. We are growing them in the garden ^_^. The green kind. But I appreciate them in all their glory. I enjoy a good pita bread and hummus and black eyed peas for New Years. And who doesn't like bean dip? Lima beans are....okay. A bit bland in flavor and I agree with Lights, cauliflower is the devil's vegetable! Ewwwww >_

Try the cauliflower with salt, pepper, and mozzarella. That's how I like it. 'Tis good.

Beans are hit and miss for me...I love 'em, like black beans, Anisazi beans, little red beans...or I hate 'em like navy beans, or black eyed peas, or garbanzo beans. Beans, whether tasty or not, are some of the healthiest foods in the world. Can't beat 'em.

Wow, how can you NOT like beans? Here in the south it is everywhere on every table. We have red beans every monday. Butterbeans (large lima beans) are great, split peas, bean soup. I make my own hummus...yummy!

Oh, if you take a large cauliflower, steam it, then mash it like you would a potatoe, add a little butter and some cheese, it is just like mashed potatoes...great for a low carb diet.

Brodoin: mmm, orange jellybeans. ^_^ I do love my citrus. Also, I gotcha. Taste is important when it comes to food, so if you don't like how Lima beans taste...well, that's a big reason to not like them overall. I'll have to try my cauliflower like that sometime, too...it sounds delicious.

Lights: lol, a cauliflower-flavored jellybean...>_> That sounds nasty.

Lost: Beans are awesome, yay! I do sometimes wish I lived about a mile away from you so I could buy/steal/trade for some of those veggies you're growing. With your expertise, I'm sure your garden's gonna rock. (pun totally intended)

ST'Q: I never really understood how people could taste major differences between beans until I tried black beans, I guess. What're Anasazi beans like?

Scatha: Haha, I know! Everybody should enjoy beans!! I just made a huge batch of homemade hummus yesterday...we're stocked up for maybe a week. Also, I've tried cauliflower that way. It's not my favorite way to prepare it--I prefer it roasted--but it's not horrible, either.

Hmm, well now I'm hungry so I'm there!

Anasizi beans are my new favorit, although they are hard to come by. Some specialty stores have them, but I have usually ordered them online. They are very colorful and flavorful, having almost a taste like buttered mashed potatos.

roguele: ^_^ Yay!

ST'Q: I've heard of Anasazi beans before. I'll have to check and see if I can find them somewhere here.

Word to the wise. Baked beans with bacon and lemon cookies, not very good to have one right after another. lol

leave it to you to write a blog about beans
chili, hot cocoa, chocolate, are all bean foods I couldn't live without, black beans and rice have become a common meal for me since I moved to Miami. Beans are everywhere!!!
Posted May 28, 2009 3:22 am PT
Wow, I've neglected my commentees! Sorry, guys.

NMTF: I haven't ever tried coffee, but sometimes I like smelling it. I know how people like the stuff. ^_^

naruto_444: agreed!

Brodoin.......ew!

Peace: Yeah, I like my food. I love chili and chocolate. Hot chocolate...well, I can't love it anymore. I'm not sure why.

Isn't black beans with rice a great combination? There's this restaurant here that pairs them perfectly in a salad, with cilantro and lime and cojito cheese...:L it's soooo good. Do you make your rice and beans yourself, or is it a common meal at restaurants you frequent?
