It's been foggy in Utah the past few days. Magical mist filling the air... Yeah, I know some of you experience fog on a regular basis and it's nothing special, but here in Utah? We don't get much. I think I can count on one hand the other times we've had fog that wasn't just inversion ickiness, and I do love the ethereal look of buildings shrouded in earth-skimming clouds of mist.

Anyway, it's fun that there's fog outside, but there's also fog in my brain. Dense fog. Like...you should probably get out a spotlight and tread carefully if you want to wander in to take a peek, possibly give yourself a lead line and wear a helmet...there's rocky marbles in there, after all. Not all of the marbles, just the ones that're left after I sent some of them to the cleaners last week.

So, I'm conducting an experiment of sorts. When the fog lets up outside, will my brain clear up too? Will I even notice if the fog clears up if my brain fog is still here? We'll just have to wait and see...

Anyway...fog! I like it. The three feet of snow we had piled up outside is now down to bare grass in patches but otherwise it's still about a foot thick, and the parking lot is still icy. Why go ice skating when you can just walk to your car? Winter has its perks, after all. Snuggling under fuzzy blankets, seeing your breath outside (so you can have mini fog!), hearty warm food... what's your favorite part of winter? Is there something you wish happened more or less in your climate?

I hate driving when it's foggy. Especially since I drive in a silver car, so I'm always afraid that someone won't see me.

We get bad fog in our area because of the humidity; thick and dense. It does not matter if it cold or warm. Just because we are so far south the air get very foggy. The problem is people do not know how to drive in it. Always a lot of accidents. I tend to like the cold months more because I will bake then. Too hot during the summer months.

Pretty hot here in California. I think it broke records a little while ago for this part of the year due to the Santa Ana Winds. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I hope the weather turns for the better.

We've got more fog in Seattle this past week than we did all last year. Strangely enough, fog is pretty rare here. But I like fog too and your words ring true for me as well. The seems to be something almost mystica about it...not when we are driving or at work or trying to transvers it, but in the silen moments when we observe the fog hover over the sights we see each day, but otherwise don't have a magical touch to me. My favorit part of winter is, by far, the beer. There are many seasonal beers that are only marketted between November and January. I wish the the energy rates did not jump so high when we consume the most.

Twisted-Alien: Yerah, driving in the fog can be freaky. I like it, though.

scatha_guardian: I'd imagine having frequent fog would make it much less mystical. We have the same issue with drivers in the first snowfall of the year...it's like half the residents of Utah become InstantIdiots and forget that you can't just speed around like normal with that white stuff all around...sigh. Baking during the winter's awesome. ^_^ What do you enjoy making this time of year?

r3173mpt10n: Oh, I'll trade you!

ST'Q: Wow, I wouldn't have ever guessed that fog isn't common in Seattle! That seems odd to me...anyway, I'm glad someone else enjoys a nice foggy day. ^_^ What kind of beers are available that aren't regularly?

I love the fog. Makes me feel connected to the spirit world. We're still buried in snow. Brain mist is the closest I get top mind fog.
Posted Jan 22, 2009 12:42 pm PT
I agree with SsriTelQuessir I find the fog to be rather mystical - I'm into fantasy and such so sometimes when it's foggy in my area I like to wander through the woods near my house and imagine I'm in an enchanted forest or something lol. I would have to say my favorite part of winter is the snow. I like to go sledding and get into snowball fights and such and then coming in and having some hot cocoa. I also like to make snowcream sometimes. It just recently snowed around here but not a whole lot and in general we don't get a whole lot of snow.

I do like me some cold weather. And snow. I can't get enough snow. But fog is nice as well. Whenever it's foggy I can't help but feel like I should walk down he middle of the road slowly. (The street I live on isn't busy so I'm not worried about being killed because of it.)

Ahhh fog I know thee well. All last December I swear it was foggy almost everyday. I don't mind fog so much and I especially love it if I'm in the mountains. Remember my picture from my blog awhile ago with the fog in the mountains? I'm sorry you have fog of the brain. I hear its not to bad of a condition . As for winter, I like cold but not so cold. I love drinking hot cocoa and watching my favorite shows or eating a nice hot soup. Snow is nice and its rare for me.

could: Buried in snow? How much? And guess what, it was RAINING tonight! WOO! XD

JusticePants: Wandering through the woods in the fog sounds amazing. I want to put that on my bucket list... I'll trade you some snow for...well, maybe some woods to walk in? And some more fog? I don't know what snowcream is, but it sounds dangerous and delicious.

Onii-chan-sama-head: Walking down the road in the fog sounds delicious, too...maybe that'll happen on the way to or from the woods? Again, I'll trade you some cold and snow for some fog. ^_^

Miss LostInWonderland: Now I have to go hunt for that picture, because I vaguely remember it and I do remember that I liked it. Soup is extra tasty in cold weather, isn't it? Tonight we had taco soup and cornbread. :L I love taco soup... And you can have some of my snow, too. I'm so generous with this white stuff we seem to have coming out of our ears...
Posted Jan 22, 2009 10:05 pm PT
Well if it's comming out your ears I may not want it. It could be all dirty and waxy.
Posted Jan 22, 2009 10:48 pm PT
I do clean my ears...occasionally. I mean, it's about as often as I shower...
Posted Jan 22, 2009 11:16 pm PT
Posted Jan 22, 2009 11:33 pm PT
Hey, I showered more than twice in this past week! I need a cookie.
Posted Jan 22, 2009 11:40 pm PT
Holy Crap! That's a lot. Someone give her a cookie!
Posted Jan 22, 2009 11:52 pm PT
I want a pumpkin square!!!!!!!!!1!
Posted Jan 22, 2009 11:53 pm PT
Well after I make some then I guess if you're good you can have ONE. Or maybe two.
Posted Jan 22, 2009 11:57 pm PT
A most excellent question. Almost all the breweries have their own winter lager or festival ale...some breweries have two or more. My particular favorits are: Siera Navada 'Celebration' ale; Deschutes 'Jubal' ale; Buffalo 'Jolly Rodger'; Rogue has a couple, 'Santa Claus' ale is my favorit of them; Piramid 'Snow Cap' is pretty good, Full Sale 'Wassil' isn't too bad either. Perhaps my favorit is the New Belgian Brewery "2 Bellow"...one of the more unique beers.

We dont get too much fog here in SD, not that mind it anyways. What I cant stand is the cold, last Thursday when I went to work it was -28 and by the time I went home @ 4:00 it was up to a whopping 0! Its not even so much that it's cold but it doesnt stay consistant for example...yesterday a lovely 40 this morning 16...I want spring!!!!!
Posted Jan 23, 2009 5:56 am PT
Justicepants lol I love it. Ok it's a deal as soon as I get some snow I'll send you some woods . And yeah snow cream is kindof like ice cream made from snow. If you can't try the real thing they have this thing at Starbucks called a creme based cinnamon dulce frappucino (I think I got the name right lol) that reminds me a lot of snow cream.
Posted Jan 23, 2009 11:39 am PT
I'm about 6 foot and my legs are buried. My mom has been hating the snow. I still love it tho.
Posted Jan 23, 2009 12:58 pm PT
Snow and fog? That's cool. Personally fog creeps me out... yeah, you don't want to see fog if there really is a town called Silent Hill. And favourite thing about Winter? Hmm... well, I dispise the cold, I can't handle it, which is why it's probably good I moved from Ohio. But the good thing is the snow. We don't get it much here, we're lucky to get less then an inch a year, but sometime, we do have good snow days. I hate the cold, but the snow, it's nice.
Posted Jan 23, 2009 3:41 pm PT
AAF: Aw, TWO?!! ...okay. I'll take what I can get. XD

ST'Q: All those specialty ales have great names, but what makes them special? Do they add cinnamon or something?

Amber: Wow, that's a lot of fluctuation in the temperature. I don't know if I could handle it...I want spring too! Let's start a petition!

LightsOn: Aaaah, Starbucks! You ARE addicted, aren't you!? Well, sounds like I got a sweet deal, anyway...gimme your address, I'll send some snow to you. I want some woods.

could: ...that's a lot of snow. Do you like playing in it, like sledding 'n such?
Posted Jan 23, 2009 3:42 pm PT
Yeah, some do. Many of the winter season beers are spiced. A really good one by Buffalo is called Pumpkin Ale...it has cinnomon, nutmeg, and ginger plus some pumpkin falvor. Pete's puts nutmeg in there winter beer. Wassil does too. Most winter beers have a darker, heavier taste to them and they tend to be stronger too. There are exceptions, though - Jolly Rodger is a red ale and Celebration is a hoppy amber.
Posted Jan 23, 2009 4:39 pm PT
Huh...the pumpkin ale sounds tasty. And nutmeg seems to make everything taste warm and spicy, I love freshly grated nutmeg especially! That's cool, thanks for answering my question, ST'Q. ^_^
Posted Jan 23, 2009 4:57 pm PT
Playing mostly. Never been sledding tho. Is it fun?
Posted Jan 24, 2009 1:46 pm PT
Sledding is probably more fun than snowboarding...for me, anyway. It's a lot of work, but it costs a lot less than other fancy-pants snow activities.
Posted Jan 24, 2009 3:16 pm PT
I've used a trash bag to sled with before. It's durable enough for the job and really easy to take back up a hill.
Posted Jan 24, 2009 8:48 pm PT
But it really sucks if your ass hits a rock...or tree.......or road...
Posted Jan 24, 2009 9:49 pm PT
That it does. Kinda sucks when you hit people too because they tend to hit back.
Posted Jan 25, 2009 2:39 pm PT
Yeah, unless they're kids. Then it's a toss-up as to whether I feel badly or think it's funny...usually it's proportional to how old they are, but sometimes it's hilarious no matter what.
Posted Jan 25, 2009 3:48 pm PT
Oh it's always funny. It just depends on how old they are on wether or not you can laugh out loud.
Posted Jan 25, 2009 4:08 pm PT
Sometimes it doesn't matter =. You just can't help it.
Posted Jan 25, 2009 5:32 pm PT
I grew up in Chicago, so I'm no stranger fog. I went to a Bears playoff game when I was 14 that was so foggy we couldn't see the field from row 32, just off the 40 yard line (one of the better seats in the stadium) Other than that I love fog, and winter. I live in Miami now, so I haven't seen snow, ice, or the like in about 4 years. What I miss the most is not being able to skate or play ice hockey anywhere down here. The below zero temperatures, the frozen shut car doors, and the inch thick window ice are among things I don't miss about winter!
Posted Jan 26, 2009 1:06 pm PT
AAF: What? You meanie.

could: Oh, you can always try to help it, though...

peace: Hey! Thanks for the comment. So you miss winter, do you? ^_^ I'll trade you a week. You can stay here at our condo and my hubby and I will take your place. Deal? We have constant thaws here in Utah (or at least days in the upper 30s and are the norm, anyway) so skating and ice hockey have to be in temperature-regulated rinks. I'm impressed with the inch thick window ice...I bet garages are mandatory for keeping cars driveable!
