At last, at long last, the NFL has rid itslef of the bane of my existence: Brett favre has retired! ![]()
A brief history: I'm a die-hard 49ers fan, and Mr. Favre was the tool of destruction to many of our Super Bowl aspirations throughout the '90s. I can't count the number of times when we met up in the play-offs and he'd take a winnable game out of our hands with one of his hundreds of miraculous, 60-yard passes dead into the hands of a receiver in the final seconds of the game. ![]()
I won't doubt his skill or his dedication to the game, great QB, great track record, but I'll also admit the great pleasure I take at knowing that his last act as a NFL QB was to throw an interception costing the Packers the game against the Giants in the play-offs dousing the Packer's OWN Super Bowl hopes and dreams! Way to go, Favre; how's it feel? ![]()
I know, I know, if history is any indication (George Foreman, Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, etc.) ancient sports icons don't stay gone for long; Favre's likely to come back next season and slew more afterwards; he'll probably die of old age on the field and this whole thing is probably just to stir up some hype to see if the millions of adoring Favre fans still love him and want him back... but right now, nothing is sweeter than Packers' tears to liven up my morning coffee! ![]()
Well, Tuesday, 3/4/08, I had my mouth set for an Army of Two steak dinner, so I sauntered into my local Game Stop, confidently requested Army of Two for the 360 and was told, matter-of-factly, that it SHIPPED that day, it RELEASED for sale the following day 3/5/08...![]()
Now, everywhere I looked, everyone I talked to gave one very specific date, 3/4/08, and NO ONE mentioned this as A SHIP date. What good is a ship date to an eager consumer like myself? Give me the date it'll be on the shelves!
Anyway, I patiently waited until the following morning, got on Game Spot, chatted a bit ad readied myself for work and a pit stop at Game Stop to FINALLY pick up Army of Two. As I'm pulling my shirt over my head, my TV goes off. Huh? I figured maybe I'd bumped the remote or something, so I went to turn it back on and.... nothing. The TV had died. ![]()
So now I'm convinced that I'm going to be killed in a fatal car crash on my way to the repair shop with my TV in tow. For some reason, crap likes in increase exponentially whenever I set my sights on something I want...
