Very well done leading edge animation but misleading in titling. Audiences looking for a film version of the popular video console game franchise did not get that movie as the story did not deal with characters popular in the gaming franchise. It was an interesting story, great characterization both in voice acting and animation, and with a different title, could have stood up better.

Mark Walberg's characterization was a bit dry and cold, but that may have been the nature of the character portrayed, someone absorbed in personal mission to get home.

What really broke the film for me was the ending, that for all purposes was crafted, not to make sense and/or add to overall complete vision of the film, but to add a shocking twist because they wouldn't retread the original film's ending. That ending as much as anything else is what I feel derailed the franchise ability of the remake, leaving audiences not seeking a sequel, just answers.

Not being a follower of the tv series, I can't say truly how far away from its roots this travels, but it left me dazed and unamused. Being a person of color myself, I could not suspended enough belief to see Will Smith in the co-lead in the time...

Not being a follower of the tv series, I can't say truly how far away from its roots this travels, but it left me dazed and unamused. Being a person of color myself, I could not suspended enough belief to see Will Smith in the co-lead in the time period of the movie, nor the extent of the physical/mental character of the antagonist. If it were to be just a fun summer romp, it had a few moments, but too far apart to be full comedy in this western adventure. A recasting of the leads and a rewrite of the material possibly could have saved it, not just plugging in the star of the year.

A perfect vehicle for franchise, this sequel suffered from lack of chemistry, a feel of the actors going through the motions, a disconnect with making the story truly immersive, the special effects being more starry than the stars, and that sophmore effect. I wanted to like it more than I did because of high hopes but I felt a bit let down and was happy when it concluded, not looking for another. Some good elements just an arrangement that wasn't.
