So here's a weird feeling: game anxiety. WFT?

I am on level 22 out of 26 on Uncharted 2. It's been an absolute delight - I have enjoyed this game so much, it really is incredible.

So I started thinking about playing it last night to finish those last few levels off. But I found myself reluctant to turn the PS3 on. This strange anxiety was bugging me. I felt kind of nervous.

So instead of gaming, I found a few things I needed to do - a few chores I should have finished, some stuff on my PC. And when I came back to the console I decided I was too tired to play so I went to bed.

As I lay there, drifting off to sleep I had a realisation: the reason I was avoiding playing Uncharted 2 was that I didn't want it to end. Like that nervous anxiety you get towards the end of a really good holiday, and have to go back to real life. Or that crawling in the pit of your stomach before an important exam.

And in the same way - I know it's inevitable that it must come to a close, but I still want to prolong that anticipation.

I don't think I've ever felt like that about a computer game before, and it is testament to the game's astounding quality.

Ok, I've finally done it. 18 months after getting it (seriously? Is it really that long? *sigh*) I am finally done with Uncharted : Drake's Fortune.

I decided to play it through again to reminisce prior to trading it in for Among Thieves, and because of my extraordinary skillz I thought I would play it on Crushing difficulty.

I have loved that game since the first moment I played it, and I am embarassed to say I reckon I have now finished it 5 times. It is just so much fun. How much harder could it be on Crushing?

Well, actually, a LOT frikken harder. Scream-inducing, controller-smashing, hair-tearing, expletive-shouting, blood-pressure-raising harder. I nearly gave up, and that's not like me at all.

But I persisted.

I swore.

I repeated sections 25, 50, even 100 times until I cracked them.

I swore again.

But I kept going. And I finally beat it last night.

HIPPEDY-HOO-RAH-HEY!

And the great big cherry on the top: I was awarded my Platinum Trophy as I completed it.

Serendipity, and an appropriate point to say goodbye to one of my favourite games.

So I spent a really spectacular day in Bournemouth on Saturday, watching the Bournemouth Air Festival. A whole day on the beach with the family, watching the flyboys doing clever things with their aircraft in the beautiful summer sunshine, truly excellent entertainment all round.

The massive crowd (340,000 on the beach, jammed in like sardines) were treated to a spectacular 5 hour demonstration of flying prowess and power.

The day started with a Royal Marine beach assault, launched from helicopters and involving the hostile boarding of a "pirate" vessel before storming the beach on landing craft. It was like a scene from Medal of Honour crossed with some Hollywood film. Machine guns, helicopters, fast-attack speedboats and landing craft - boys-own stuff!

This was followed by a parachute team from the RAF Falcons jumping out of a Chinook at 10,000ft to provide support for the Marine withdrawal back to their waiting ship.

The Chinook team then did a few fancy tricks of their own before performing a crowd-pleasing bow. For a humungous heli, those things are pretty manouverable.

Then there were several displays by some vintage aircraft and a pair of mad wing-walkers on byplanes. Several American WWII planes and the Red Bull Air Racers doing stupid high-G things to their bodies in the name of entertainment.

There was also a flypast by a Lancaster Bomber and Spitfire escort - real boys-own stuff.

Later in the day was the highlight for me - the Red Arrows - doing their trademark stuff. Simply jaw-dropping what those guys can do with those jets. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Wow. I could watch those guys every day and not get bored.

Then it was the turn of the historic Vulcan Heavy Bomber, which sounds like an explosion in a TNT factory when it's got the power down. It was strangely graceful for a cold-war bomber though, which I suppose is not so surprising when you remember it was the basis for Concorde.

In this pic, it was simulating a bombing run so the massive bomb-bay is visible - where the nuke would have been had they been on action-stations in the 70s.

To end the show, the Eurofighter did a few clever tricks and showed the awesome power that modern warfighters have. Those afterburners were beatiful against the evening sky.

Eurofighter Typhoon.

A truly wonderful day out for all the family. Even my 1 year old enjoyed the booming afterburners at times.
