Boo! How's everybody's Halloween going? I'm not doing much of anything besides watching some creepy movies, and I figured "Hey, when is there a better time to talk about frightening films than Halloween?"
So here, are my 10 Favorite Horror Films. Now, I'm not big on horror movies, but a few have really appealed to me over the years.
I prefer "apprehensive and creepy" to "wet your pants scary".
Here is a countdown of my favorites:
#10- Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy (1972)

A vicous killer stalks the street of London, violating innocent girls and strangling them to death with neckties. It's my favorite of Hitchcock's last few films, sporting a terrific cast and some gripping suspense. ![]()
#9- The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
![]()
Erik the deformed Phantom haunts the Paris Opera House, and longs for the love of an opera diva... Lon Chaney's makeup is the greatest costume in cinema history! ![]()
#8- Dawn of the Dead (1978 )
![]()
Bloodthristy zombies terrorize a group of people trapped in a giant shopping mall. A sequel to Night of the Living Dead, this one is even better. Bloody and gory, but great fun. ![]()
#7- Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963)
![]()
Birds begin terrorizing a small coastal town. This is another prime Hitchcock film, and probably the most suspenseful he ever did. The ending always blows me away...
#6- Freaks (1932)
![]()
When some gold-digging circus performers try to cut in on wealthy sideshow "freaks", the freaks fight back in a horrible way... This one has to be seen to be believed! ![]()
#5- Nosferatu: Eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922)
![]()
Horrorific Count Orlock has a nasty secret...and real estate agent Thomas Hutter may find it out the hard way. This German film is certainly an early building block of modern horror.
#4- The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
![]()
Novice FBI agent Clarice Starling must ask cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter for help in catching a sexually-driven villian. Anthony Hopkins makes the film very creepy! ![]()
#3- The Shining (1980)
![]()
Spirits at an isolated hotel gradually drive a writer to insanity, which he unleashes on his wife and son. All Work and No Play Makes Jack a Dull Boy. ![]()
#2- The Night of the Hunter (1955)
![]()
A psychotic preacher is determined to find the location of hidden loot by any means necessary, even when it means going after the robber's children. The scene where Robert Mitchum corners the kids in the basement is my favorite part. ![]()
#1- BRINGING UP BABY (1938 )
![]()
Dedicated scientist Cary Grant and dizzy socialite Katharine Hepburn come fact to face with a wild leopard... Wait a minute, this isn't a horror film! ![]()
#1- Psycho (1960)
![]()
Marion Crane decides to return some money she stole from her bosses office, and stops at a motel. But she didn't count on Norman Bates, the owner of the hotel who has a very soft spot for his mother... ![]()
Well, these are my choices! How's about yours? Have a wonderful Halloween! ![]()
