Nyuck nyuck nyuck!
Who's ready for some good old fashioned fun with the greatest comedy team who ever lived!
That's right, as the final blog of my recent series on celebrity birthdays, we pay some homage to Larry Fine of the Three Stooges. ![]()

Larry Fine (born Louis Feinburg) (1902- 1975)
Larry was the middleman of the Stooges. The boss was Moe and the goof was either Curly, Shemp, Joe, or Curly-Joe depending upon the year. It's like an equation:
f(3S)= M+L+?
Anyway, Larry is best known for his ace fiddle playing and his trademark frizzy hair. He often got hit by Moe, and every so often was permitted to give a good crack to the 3rd man. He was the best middleman there was. ![]()
The Stooges made 190 short films at Columbia Studios, as well an several feature films and some musical shorts at MGM. This is some of their most famous output:

A-Plumbing We Will Go (1940)- One of the Stooges most iconic and memorable films, where they pose as plumbers to dodge the law and ruin a fancy mansion.
That's Moe with the blowtorch, and Curly with the corset. ![]()

Slippery Silks (1936)- The Stooges inherit a fancy dress shop and end up starting a huge cream puff fight during a fashion show. Not one of their more remembered films, but certianly one of the most popular among fans.

Hoi Polloi (1935)- In another one of the more recognized Stooges films, the Stooges become pawns in a bet between two professors over which factor causes social distinction- environment or heredity? Here actor Harry Holman tries to teach the Stooges to read. ![]()

Three Little Beers (1935)- When the big golf tournment at Panther Brewing begins, the Stooges decide to grab some practice and end up destroying the golf course in the process.

Hold that Lion! (1947)- The only time you see four Stooges at once!
Curly has a cameo as a train passenger as seen in the picture above. Notice he has a great deal of hair! ![]()

Violent is the Word for Curly (1938 )- The Stooges end up teaching at a girls college when they are mistaken for European professors by the Dean. This contains the Stooges popular tune, Swinging the Alphabet. Google it...
Finally, my favorite Stooges short, Pardon my Scotch (1935). The Stooges pose as Scottish brewers to keep a liquor salesman in business...

So do yourself a favor and watch some Stooges!
Maybe I'll have to share some pics of my collection! Thanks for reading! ![]()

I'm on Volume 6 of the collections now. It was sad to see Curly leave back in Volume 5, and it seemed to take a while for Shemp to take up the slack left by Curly's departure.
Finally, he would make a draw for free tickets to next week's movie! I won once! Saved you 35 cents and you could put that towards MORE candy!
Then we'd get a couple of cartoons and best of all a couple of "3 Stoogies" shorts before the movie, usually a monster movie.
Ah, they were part of my youth for sure!!!
