OK folks, here comes my 3rd recent blog honoring a celebrity birthday. Again, due to my real life occupation and educational pursuits, I'm running a few days behind. But I'm sure the stars wouldn't be diepleased with me.

Today we're going way back to the 10s and 20s when this little dude was in his heyday. He wasn't as big as Sir Charlie Chaplin or Harold Lloyd in his day, but overtime his films became immensly popular and he remains one of the most iconic faces of the silent era. Today we pay homage to...

Bus

Buster Keaton (born Joseph F. Keaton IV) (1895-1966)

114 years young! Now for his important films:

Ge

The General (1927) Keaton performs some dangerous stunts on a speeding train in this Civil War comedy epic! Although it bombed on release, it is now considered his greatest film! It was one of the first film in the Library of Congress and is on the AFI's Top 100 List.

SJ

Sherlock Jr. (1924) One of his most famous silents, and it includes some even more dangerous stunts on towers and motorcycles. An awesome film and one of my candidates for greatest movie ever!

Nav

The Navigator (1924) A seagoing adventure film!

Ho

Our Hospitality (1923) An early period comedy film that served as a blueprint for The General.

Ca

The Cameraman (1928 ) The film that intorduced me to Keaton's works. It has some great scenes of Keaton caught in a Chinese gang war.

Suns

Sunset Blvd. (1950)- Buster has a cameo as a washed up silent film star who plays bridge with Gloria Swanson and the other washed-up silent films stars.

Kim

Limelight (1952)- Buster was a lifelong friend (and rival) of Charlie Chaplin and Chaplin gave the poorer, struggling Keaton a role as his stage partner in Chaplin's greatest drama. The two do a musical duet scene.

madma

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)- Buster has a cameo as Spencer Tracy's gangster henchman. Heis only on screen for a few minutes.

Fun

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966)- In his last role, Buster plays Erronious, an old man searching for his children who were kidnapped in infancy. He still gets some funny lines and even takes a pratfall!

So be sure to wish Buster a happy birthday!

Swoop! Keaton deserves his place as one of the geniuses of the silent era. He was also good in talkies, especially in The Twilight Zone comic episode "Once Upon A Time", half of which was silent.

Hi Woolsey, Now you're talking! My all-time favorite silent-film star Buster Keaton. Here's a little treat for you if you haven't seen it at publicdomain.com. The Blacksmith. Don't forget his work in the Beach Blanket Bingo film, he was always chasing the girl in the polka-a-dot bikini!

Thanks for that tribute to Buster Keaton...I confess, I've seen none of these, but was interested to hear the plot for Sunset Boulevard, which I've often seen advertised but never knew the premise.

Hey, I think I remember that "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" was also the name of the musical by Stephen Sondheim. So funny! Oh, and the Twilight Zone episode "Once Upon a Time" kind of reminds me of "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse".

That's okay. The stars are just happy that they're being honoured. Buster Keaton looks like an interesting guy.
