"I want to be alone" So goes the catch phrase which Garbo has forever burned into our memories. Silent and graceful, versatile and passionate, dramatic and serious, Garbo had a talent which few other performers could ever hope to possess. She could act. She didn't even need lines to make her presence known, she had an aura of energy that could nearly qualify her as a goddess. She wasn't necessarily a drop dead beauty, but she was able to utilize her face to help create the serious emotions for which she is known. Although she didn't make many films, her acting was one of a kind.

Quite possibly the greatest comic who has ever graced the earth. Chaplin took screen comedy to a whole new plane, often tying in social, political, or religious significance into funny films. This is a trait all but lost on the comedy pictures of today. Although his personal life was ridden with broken marraiges, and affairs and scandals of every sort, this never stopped him from producing high class, quality films. Many of the films dealt with issues that were far ahead of their time, such as drugs and sex. This proves just how great a master of comedy Charlie Chaplin was. No one can ever surpass him.

"Here's looking at you kid". One of Bogie's major catch phrases from the immortal "Casablanca", in which he plays his typical role of a cynic with moral codes. Although he stood quite small at five feet eight, his screen presence was larger than life. He played awesome leads in films such as "The Maltese Falcon", "The African Queen", "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", and a favorite of mine, "High Sierra." He is quite worthy of his recognition as Greatest Actor of all time by the American Film Institute. He was one of a kind and his kind will never be seen again.

The Great Man himself. Always hen-pecked and put-upon by his wives and bosses, and frequently sneaking drinks to hone his comic wordplay. Nobody has ever lived who can match Field's versatile comic style. W.C. was a man capable of nearly everything. He has nearly as many classic quotes about life and marraige as Groucho Marx. His alcohol jokes are unparalleled, such as refusing to drink water because fish make love in it. He is also quite possibly the only man who was capable of upstaging Mae West, as he beat her to every witticism in "My Little Chickadee."
Although in our modern age he has slipped from universal recognition, look into Bill's work. "Don't be a tartuffle!"

The greatest leading man of them all. He could play it all, from a gangster to a rogue to a song and dance man. Sure, his ears were huge, but his acting was so full of passion that all of his faults are cast aside. Although he was loved by ladies, he was also vastly respected by men. Gable was frequently a hero, someone who went against Charles Laughton or armies or corrupt politicians to support a common goodness. He made all of his motion picture actions look effortless, and no matter the situation, was always ready to defend the lovely heroine. His kind will never walk the earth again.

When somebody says Three Stooges, only one foil can truely come to mind. Vernon was perfect for the Stooges.(and the other countless actors he supported including everyone from Buster Keaton to Bing Crosby.)
Vernon could easily take pratfalls and chase the other heroes about the set despite his large girth. He was not afraid to take pies to the face or a hammer to the skull, which made him every useful to the Stooges. His versatile acting skills allowed him to take almost any part, and interact flawlessly with the various co-stars. Unfortunatly, he never really had a great, memorable starring vehicle. An underrated star, who deserves more recognition.

The absolute greatest dancing master who ever lived. Fred could do virtually anything from sing to dance to play instruments, and he made it all look so easy.
Although he was short and scrawny, andhad one of the worst hairstyles a celebrity could have, his sheer talent and ability to play almost any part more than made up for it. Even after his dancing careers with other star such as Ginger Rogers and Judy Garland had elapsed, he maintained his worth as a dramatic actor in films such as "On The Beach."
Defintely worth a look any chance you have. There will never be someone like Fred Astaire to touch the world again.

Probably one of the most underrted comics and all around stars of all time. Chase was a normal man, well-dressed and average in nearly every respect, but yet specialized in being a complete loser. Although he made numerous short subjects at both Roach and Columbia, his most notable film is undoubtably Laurel and Hardy's obnoxious lodge pal in "Sons of the Desert". In this film, he gets the option to truely express his acting talents of a wide range. Unfortunatly he never really had a starring feature, which probably explains his relative lack of popularity today. His work is underrated genius, and his influence on other comics is quite evident.

A giantess of the silver screen, literally at five-foot-ten. She may talk with a noticeable accent, but she doesn't act with one. Her performance in Spellbound (1945) is one of my favorite of all time, as she exercises all of her skills and moods; from cold and aloof to warm, loving, and sympathetic. She is also greatly loved for her most notable as Ilsa in Casablanca. Again, she exhibits the talents that made her notable and loved, even by audiences sixty years later. Sadly, she passed away on her 67th birthday, but she will live on thanks to reruns. Don't miss her.

Cary Grant is one of my favorite actors of all time. He was also one of the few actors that Sir Alfred Hitchcock ever respected. Grant could do nearly anthing from comedies such as "Bringing Up Baby" or "Mr. Blandings Builds a Dream Home" to action "North By Northwest", to suspense "Notorious" or "Suspicion." the only thing that prevents him from getting a perfect 10 from me is the fact that he never played a villian. A great villian he would have made too, judging by his sinister actions in "Suspicion." But he's far more talented than you or I could ever be, and we should respect him for being such a hero.

The greatest director who ever lived! From his brilliant films to his wonderful TV show, Hitch has come up with all sorts of things that define mystery and suspense. His early British film work of the thirties is entertaining, and really acts as a precursor to what was coming in Hollywood. His televison show also had its incredible moments and was extremely successful for many years. But today, he is best remembered for his work in Hollywood in the 1950s and 1960s. He churned out classics such as "Psycho", "Rear Window", "North by Northwest", and "Vertigo." His directional talents, such as use of McGuffins and shadows will never be equaled by others.

Moe Howard was a comic genius. He had everything that was needed to define him as a leader. The scowling face, the bad haircut, the cruel voice. Although in reality he was a kind and shrewd man, his on-screen personality will forever define him. The reason I admire him so much is because in 40 plus years of performing, he never once missed a show. His dedication is simply astonishing. Although he fell from tables and was banged by doors, he never objected, and continued performing regardless of personal pain. We should all look upon Moe as an inspiration in our own lives.

Brilliant, underrated disaster movie that features a remarkable love affair between nightclub owner Gable and singer MacDonald. The earthquake scenes are out of this world and the music is brilliant.
