So I'm not here to make any accusations or generally act like a dink. But I thought I'd share something unusual with you today. As you all know, I'm a big fan of the 2D platformer. And when one comes out for a system I don't own, it still catches my attention. So, today, I found myself clicking on a link to find out more about Lucidity for the 360.
Here's what Gamespot thinks as of the writing of this blog.

That sounds great, doesn't it? And nothing seems out of place until you realize one crucial detail. This game has yet to be reviewed. Look:

I found that odd, that they describe an upcoming game as "addictive" when they haven't reviewed it yet. And even moreso, that the average gamer and non-Gamespot critic response to this title is a mid-to-high meh. Isn't it a bit misleading for a gaming news site to be using opinion adjectives like "addictive" before they have even decided on a score for the game? It would be like if the defendant in a trial was referred to as guilty before the evidence was even presented. (THIS close to finishing Apollo Justice.)
But I didn't want to pick on Ludicity and find out that it's just something Gamespot does all the time. So I thought, let's be fair. What other downloadable, upcoming 2D platformers could I compare this to?

See that? That's a description that doesn't editorialize. .. Then again, it doesn't say much about the game at all. Action Adventure tells me butt. At least Lucidity's described the game. Let's try again.

Well that's even more terse! I'm really looking forward to Night SKY. Not only does this synopsis not do the game justice, nor contain any slanted adjectives to promote it before it's review, but the game page still has the working title. How insulting. Let's try one more time.

... Ugh. Come to whatever conclusions you'd like. I'm gonna climb into a hole and get back to playing niche games nobody cares about. Message me when gaming dies, hm?

However, as a critical opinion on the situation, GS really is starting to suck. Not only do game after game go by without reviews or even the removal of the coming soon months after release, but they have time to stage a massive 'greatest waste of effort of all time' contest... personally part of me thinks few people come here any more and instead of buckling down and playing some games, they had to make some dumb contest to boost their hits before Cnet shut them off.
I haven't seen a mod around in a long time... I only get 10 or so repeat people that I keep bumping into on the forums... This place is almost like a ghost town, with the lack of reviews and information about any games not made by Nintendo or with F-words in it. It's sad really.
And the game will be called Can Ocarina Do THIS?!
And I bounce between this site and others like IGN and 1UP because of how GS is either slow or forgetful with reviews around here. They have some hatred against lesser known PSP titles; there is no review for Phantasy Star Portable or DJ Max Fever around here, and I used other websites to help me determine whether I would want those games or not (they stand as my most oft-played PSP games now). GS needs to step it up.
It's been over a year already that the quality of content on this website has degraded.
3 years ago, it was not like this. It all started with the departure of Greg Kasavin...after he left and the Gerstman thing happened, everybody left. Sadly, this website might actually disappear!
To be fair, the games that you've been looking into obviously took a back seat to the Big releases, although that is entirely subjective. What's Big for them is unimportant to some of us.
It wasn't a planned blog.
I've got another one. Recently I run into a cheap deal near my house of a game that caught my attention: Square Enix's Front Mission for the DS. It's not an obscure franchise or from an obscure developer; even so, it never got a review - since 2007! Unfortunately I must look in another place...

Love this blog! I think the descriptions used for Night and Cave Story are copy and paste synopses that can be applied to pretty much any unreleased game.
