So last time I was talking about how much I liked NCIS: Los Angeles. And really, I hadn't thought it possible, but I think I just fell even more in love with the cast. It's mostly centered on Callen and Sam--and don't get me wrong, I love those two and their relationship--but the rest of their team is fantastic. Now normally in a show with a bunch of main characters there's at least one that I'm too crazy about. Not with NCIS: LA.
Yeah, in the beginning Nate bugged me and I was iffy on Kensi. But after the third episode I found I really do like those two as well. Nate's moment with Dom after the dead kid in the bathroom was really sweet. And I liked the scene between Nate and Eric when Eric's at his desk and Nate comes in and watches him watch the computer screen and says something about him being the kind of guy who presses the elevator button a bunch of times because he thinks it'll make it go faster. And I liked Kensi's "the first date is the last date" scene. She doesn't have much to do, but she's beautiful and so far not annoying, so I like her.
I think I like that cast way too much. But they're all so adorable and awesome, how can you *not* like them?
So besides my complete love and adoration for NCIS: LA, I started new shows. One of them was planned, Trauma, and the other was an accident, Glee.
I heard about Trauma during the summer and put it on my list without looking too hard at it (a show about paramedics, of course I'm in) and then a few weeks before it started I looked at the cast list. And I found out that Cliff Curtis was in it. I haven't actually seen most of his stuff, but I saw Push a while ago and I really liked it, and I loved his character Hook Waters (yeah, that was his name, what about it?), despite the fact that he only had a small role to play. So I was psyched about the show and hoping like hell it wouldn't disappoint. And I am frelling happy to say it was great! I love his character, Rabbit (what is with this guy and his weird names?) and I like most of the other cast as well.
It's funny, I hear people complaining that the show is just like Third Watch, well I've seen Third Watch and while yes, they are halfway about paramedics, they also have the cops and the firemen in the story. And then I go look at the TW boards and people are btching that TW is a ripoff of another show.
I had watched about ten/fifteen minutes of Glee about a week or two after it first aired on tv on the Hulu website. It didn't really grab my attention and I eventually abandoned it. But I was bored the other night and I finished the episode. It was interesting, something new (ie not another cop show) and it made me laugh, so I watched the second episode and the 3rd. I'm still behind, but I plan on catching up when I have time.
I have to admit I've pretty much given up on Heroes unless I'm bored or out of shows to watch. I barely finished the first episode, and then only skipped through to the scenes with Samuel. I like him, but I'm not sure I'll watch the show for him. I read a recap for the 2nd episode, and I'll probably only keep tabs on the show that way for now. I also have a confession to make. I didn't watch the 2nd episode of Dollhouse. I hadn't heard great things about it, and I just couldn't bring myself to watch, so I went and read a recap on televisionwithoutpity.com and it didn't impress me. I'm not sure if I'll be watching Dollhouse anymore either. I guess I'll see what happens.
Oh, right, how could I forget. I actually have another new show: Stargate Universe. Which was admittedly a show I was planning on staying away from. I saw cast photos and heard stuff about it and I really wasn't interested. But somehow, like always, I ended up watching the pilot episode. It wasn't great, and I have issues with some of the cast, but I liked it. Enough that I'll keep watching. I miss Stargate SG1/Atlantis, although I only really watched the last 2 season of SG1 for Cameron Mitchell (not a big fan of the show before then, and while RDA is funny, he's not the best).
I absolutely despise Rush's character on Universe, there's nothing redeemable about him. Besides him, I don't like that Wray chick (at least I think that's her name). Everyone else was either blah or likeable. Yes, Greer has issues, but so far he hasn't done anything to make me not like him. And he's kind of cute. I like Scott, and I like Young. Eli's awkward, but I appreciate his enthusiasm, despite the eye-rolling over his getting into the stargate program because of a video game (i mean, really? REALLY?). The woman, Tabatha, TJ, something like that, hasn't show a lot of personality, but I'm thinking I may end up not liking her. Chloe was annoying as hell, god what is with this show and their inability to write acceptable female characters? (especially when they have so many). I don't care if it sounds cruel or btchy, but I am so glad they killed her dad, he was terrible. Oh, and Lou Diamond Philips wasn't even really there. But I still didn't like him. You know what? Figuring out which characters I liked and didn't just made me realize that if this show isn't at least good, I can't watch, considering I hate about half the cast. Damn.
I believe that's all right now, besides still catching up on True Blood (yeah, I know, I'm slow, but I don't actually watch tv 24/7 or even all day).
I have been looking forward to the fall season for a lot of reasons (Summer is too hot and brings spiders and bugs), but mainly I couldn't wait for the new tv season to begin. I'm still waiting for the premiere of a few more shows (Southland, Trauma, Dollhouse) but so far I have not been disappointed in the shows I've been looking forward to.
Castle: As big a fan as I am of Nathan Fillion (which I must admit is nowhere near the same level as some of his more obsessive fans), I can't honestly say I watch the show all for him. Yes, I do like his character and I like his relationship with Beckett, but I'm more into the interactions between all of the cast (less his family and more the other detectives.) The best thing about Castle is that I love all the main characters, main female included (trust me, this is rare). The worst thing is I still love Detective Ryan a little too much and he's still not in the show enough. The 2nd season premiere was great, though I have to say I am a little disappointed they made such a big deal about the issue between Beckett and Castle in the finale and then had very little of that tension in the first new episode.
FlashForward: I have been so bloody excited about this show since I first saw the promo for it, which was quite a few months ago. Just watching those couple of minutes of previews, and I went a little crazy over Joseph Fiennes for a little while. (By the way, The Escapist is a pretty good movie, even if it wasn't exactly starring Fiennes.) Finally, the show premiered last night and it was awesome! So far I'm really enjoying it. I don't have a lot to say about it, but I can tell you I was grinning like an idiot for the first few minutes. I love Mark and John Cho's character (sorry, I don't know how to spell the name correctly). Other than that, I cannot wait for next week.
NCIS: Los Angeles: NCIS was never really my thing. I watched occasionally and it was enjoyable if not wonderful. None of the characters really appealed to me and my favorite character was probably Ziva (a bad sign that a woman was my favorite), though she was annoying at times. So I saw the 'pilot' episode on NCIS for the spinoff and it was kind of awkward and not great. But I liked most of the new team so I figured I'd go for the new show. I gotta say, I'm glad they dropped the one guy (something like Renko?) and I'm not sorry to see the old team leader go, oh, and the new guy I like. In fact, I like the entire cast. I love the relationship between Callen and Sam. The show was great and while it is yet another cop show, it was fun and funny and very cool.
The Forgotten: Not much to say. The idea behind it is nice, I like that they don't have the cops just giving up on cases and having the civillians take over because Police don't know how to do their job. There wasn't a lot of characterization going on, but it was the pilot so I didn't expect a whole lot. I'm a fan of Christian Slater and I loved My Own Worst Enemy, and while I'd rather have that show back than The Forgotten, it wasn't a bad start. I'll keep watching at least for now.
Modern Family: I wasn't planning on watching as I'm not a sitcom fan. See the thing is, for twenty minutes there isn't a lot of plot that can go on, so I expect if it's a comedy I should be laughing most of the time, right? Well, with most sitcoms I only get a few laughs, so I generally avoid them. Arrested Development and Better Off Ted (oh, crap, I totally forgot about this show!) are basically the only exceptions (plus, Jay Harrington is hot). But I was bored, so I went to the ABC website and watched the pilot for Modern Family on their site. It was hilarious. I was laughing even after it was over. I love Phil, but the entire family (his kids excluded) is funny.
Supernatural: Honestly, I'm hardly watching this show. In fact, I basically fast forward through the entire thing except for the parts with Castiel. I got tired of the drama and the angst and the never ending horror show. But I do like Castiel. And Chuck. So I couldn't really tell you much of what's going on in this show, unless Castiel or Chuck were in the scene.
Heroes: I started watching the first episode of the season even though I said I wouldn't if they killed off Nathan last year. i haven't finished though and I'm not sure i want to. It's kind of up in the air right now as to whether I'll be watching or not.
True Blood: I'm still working through the 2nd season admittedly, though it's not because I'm not enjoying it or anything, I just get busy with other shows and stuff. I love Bill, and mostly I love Sookie. I'm not crazy about Tara, even if she is hot. I've always liked Terry, and I feel really bad for the guy. I don't have much to say as I haven't gotten through the season yet.
At the moment I think that's all I'm watching, but sometimes I forget things.
EDITED TO ADD: Like I said I'm forgetful.
Third Watch: I recently bought the first season on DVD and I really love this show. It's nice to see all the different sides of the cops, paramedics and firemen. I like most of the cast, although Jimmy (hot as he is) is a jerk and Kim is an idiot for still loving him. Unfortunately they've only put the first two seasons on DVD, which is really annoying.
This was Ela's idea, so you have her to blame, just remember that. Oh, and there may be spoilers for these shows, so if you're not caught up, don't read.
I used to have more shows that I watched, but either they were cancelled or they really should have been cancelled as the writing went downhill. Also, it's hard to get into shows (new and/or ones I've been watching) when I become obsessed with a single character--which happens far too often. And this time I've picked a hell of a character to fall for.
Life is one of the shows I still enjoy. I love Damien Lewis, who I re-discovered watching Band of Brothers (I say "re" because I had seen him a while ago in Dreamcatcher but only had eyes for Tom Jane at the time) and love the depth he brings to his character Detective Crews. One of the things I like most about Charlie Crews is that even though he has adopted a Zen attitude, he's still very much human and emotional. It keeps him sane but at the same time he doesn't just sit back and take whatever life throws at him, he goes out for vengeance and protects the people he loves.
In real life, his Zen sayings would probably get annoying, and his quirky behavior might be tiresome, but it makes for good television. He's one of my favorite TV characters ever.
The Mentalist. Maybe not orginal, and yes it's another cop show, but the writing is good and the characters are interesting. Not to mention, Jane and Cho are both attractive guys.
Castle--And here is where I found my latest obsession, rather unfortunately. I have a thing for cop shows and I like Nathan Fillion, so I started watching Castle. It was good. Entertaining. Considering how much I like Firefly and the fact that Captain Reynolds was my favorite character, you'd think that Fillion's character Castle would be my favorite character right? Nope. Not him, not detective Beckett, but a character with about five minutes screen time each episode. Detective Ryan. Yeah, that guy who is simply there (along with his buddy) to run around for Beckett or make an occasional comment. It's terrible.
I loved that one (way too short) scene in the 4th episode with Ryan and his partner (I don't know how to spell his name) searching through the dumpster, with Ryan talking about scavenging furniture and trickle down economics and his partner looking disgusted. And then he tells him that he scavenged the couch in his apartment.
Look at the guy

How can you keep him in the background of the show? It really would have been better if he'd never been cast as the character, because now I really, really, wish he had more screen time. Damn it. But, maybe 'cause I don't see him enough, for now my fixation on this guy isn't as bad as previous ones and I can watch other shows. Otherwise I'm sure I'd be watching the five episodes of Castle over and over again. Which is really not a good thing. But I think I just gave myself that idea, and now I just might do it anyways.
Heroes It's had it's ups and downs, but I've stuck with the show so far. And if they kill Nathan I am going to be frelling pssed off. I won't watch the show anymore. Yes, he's had some dren ideas and done some bad things, but Nathan does have a heart, and he does care about other people. When he doesn't let politics or his parents get in the way. He's my favorite character, obviously, and I watch the show mostly for him. I thought it was nice at first when he got together with Tracy, he liked Nikki and they had something almost, but then she had an agenda and her character just annoyed me. And now I'm hearing people saying she's not really dead even though she frelling CRACKED.
I just have to say, these guys do kind of a dren job of being heroes. And I wish they would just kill Sylar already. They made him too powerful.
Kings I've only watched the first 3 episodes, and I heard recently it was cancelled, but I was really enjoying the plot. At first I disliked Jack a hell of a lot. He acted like a bastard. But then they showed more about him and I feel sorry for him. He's not that bad of a guy, and his father is a dren for the way he acts with his SON for God's sake. Of course Jack is going to act the way he is when his parents act the way they do.
I was mad they killed Eli, though I could see it coming unfortunately, as I like that actor. He really needs to pick roles where his character isn't killed off. At least in his last show he lasted most of the season before dying. But in Kings case, his death was necessary. I like David, but he doesn't seem to have much of a character. And the Reverend guy is a little...weird. I like him, but he's odd.
The Unusuals I saw the first episode and it was funny. Yes, I know, another bloody cop show. But hey, as long as it's entertaining. And the Unusuals was. I really don't have anything to say about it other than it was funny and I'll keep watching. Until they cancel it.
Rush is a POLICE show from Australia that I recently saw. I love foreign accents, although it is a bit difficult to understand what they're all saying at times. I like most of the characters, though I can't say I'm sorry that the one woman died at the end of the season. If i'm sorry, it's for the guy who was in love with her. Although he was a complete son of a hazmot in the beginning.
So anyways, those are the shows I'm watching, and I have to go now, so Goodbye.
