Howdy to all!!! I went to a traders square in Boksburg South - Africa recently... Upon arrival I had a walk through and checked out the products up for sale.
I came to a shop claiming that they sell French Import games... I was a bit sceptic and I was reluctant to purchase any of the games seeing that the packaging was quite obviously mediocre and not official at all. I love the gaming industry. I hate DRM!!! But it is a hassle I will gladly accept and move on. I have to add that I also do hate EA games and the way that they are monopolizing the gaming industry. They have made a few good titles in the past but the latest releases are utter rubbish. Enough banter!
Anyhow. I purchased one of the games from the Trader Square shop and took it home for some investigation. Turns out the game was as I thought a fake... I installed it and it worked until I wanted to play online. The game was UT III. Now I for one believe in supporting gaming companies by actually buying the ORIGINAL game. Thus aiding them in getting rich and making more great titles in the future. I despise all of you bastards who make a living off, off another mans hard work!
The company is named www.gamehunt.co.zaThey are pirates and must be taken to walk the plank. I am disgusted in this and believe that other will also share my feeling towards this. Watch out for them as they are crooks!
Peace out!!!
I was out and about today. Looking at some game titles available for me to purchase locally.
To my amazement I noticed that there really wasn't that much variety locally. I mean sure they stock Crysis, Alone in the Dark, Lost Planet, TheOrange Box, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and some Exclusive range software, but that's it...
Went to another outlet and the same thing... The same titles and the same layout. But a slight difference. The first outlet charges R349 (South-African Rand) for Alone in the Dark (PC) whilst the second outlet charges R399 for the exact same game.
I approached the sales rep and asked as to why the title was at a different cost. He explained that they get the titles from different supliers and that import costs rise and all the financial mumbo jumbo etc...
What he didn't know is that I was well aware of the suppliers and import costs, and that I knew that the first outlet I went to got the games from the EXACT same supplier and that the two outlets were actually ONE company. Trading under different names. One specializes in Music whilst the other specializes in Gaming and DVDs. The catch is that the one that specializes in gaming charged me more than the other one!
I am a South-African resident and I am constanlty being ripped off from every which way! I would like to see something happen about this. It's not just enough that the end consumer has to pay R8.50 for a friggin' bread but now we must also be ripped off by well established companies.
I blame the Government. They really suck, and I feel they couldn't manage their way out of a paper bag yet alone a country!
Shame on you S.A government, and shame on you retail outlets. I am sticking with take2.co.za THEY ROCK!
Adios.
