Alan Wake is a game that I have long been looking forward to playing. It has been in the works for several years now but has had many rumored release dates that have all been just that, rumors and none of them have proved true. Remedy, the makers of Max Payne, and of this game, has remained vague about its release date and when asked has only responded with, "When it's done." I have been reading recently on the web where a September, 2008 release date for Europe has been set, and today while Amazon.com I found a pre-order for the game with a release date of October 1, 2008, which coincides with the European release date. Let's just cross our fingers and hope this just not another phathom release date.

Alan Wake is described as being a single player, third person game, in which you play as Alan Wake, a best-selling suspense novelist, who writes about the terror of others. His travels take him to the seemingly peaceful town of Bright Falls, Washington, where he plans to get away from the trauma of losing his fiancee. Instead of a quiet place of solitude, Alan Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmarish world of horrifying enemies. He then must explore this strange world filled with suspense by completing missions, solving unique puzzles and battling monsterous enemies. He will have a large and expansive world to explore, laden with suspense in this engaging story, with unique characters and revelations in order to escape his captivity.

I've seen sites like Amazon list release dates just for the sake of posting them (they did that with Starcraft II, Duke Nukem Forever, and other games, and the dates where never true), so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. But you can always wish...

Oh and when you have time, check out my Tomb Raider Legend review.

Well, I heard a lot about this game as well, and it's a Vista exclusive if I am not mistaken. I should hope to upgrade my computer along with the operating system by the time this game comes out.

I am interested in seeing what this game hsa to offer. I liked May Payne, so if the game is anything like it, I am going to enjoy it.

I don't know much about the "Alan Wake" series, other than what the previews say and of course that it has been in development for quite some time now.I do enjoy a good thriller once in awhile. From what I have read,I will be purchasing this game as soon as its release,if it releases. Just as WalkingP & SYdoggXxX wrote, let us hope it comes out on the date that the recent internet rumblings suggest, because rumoured official release dates via the internet, not to mention game-creators official release dates, are not always so official.

Not too sure whats the big deal behind this game but I do know its been in development for way too long and has been pushed back too much. After reading soo many articles about its release dates, Im beginning to wonder if its going to be like duke nukem and just never come out.

I agree Nocturnal 15, it a certain sense it reminds me of Demonic, great looking game that never came out. If you've ever watched the movie Grandma's Boy, they showed parts of the game throughout. With it being an Xbox and Games for Windows exclusive, could there be a problem with Remedy and Microsoft? Just a thought.

I copied this from n4g.com:

Microsoft's Don Mattrick had stated in a memo sent out to Microsoft's Xbox staff that Remedy's highly promising game would be one of the 360's big-name exclusives for 2008. However, according to Jeux-France.com sources within the Finnish developer are now claiming that the earliest we'll see the game is 2009.

Hey WalkingP! This blog rocks. Alan Wake is one of my most anticipated games of the year. While the release date is unknown with only speculation for a fall release, I was beginning to really lose hope. Just like you, I hope these are legitimate release dates, ones we can rely on to make our gaming dreams come true! If I had to pick between all the exclusive Xbox 360 games, I would pick Alan Wake. I have been following this game since 2005 and I hope we'll hear about it at E3 this year in Los Angeles. More than likely I will be attending because I haven't been to one yet, and I live in the Los Angeles area. Maybe, I'm not too late on purchasing some tickets. Sorry, off-topic. As much as I would love to see this game come out in 2008, I'm leaning more towards an early 2009 release date, possibly Q2 2009. That just makes fiscal 2009 a bigger year than ever to go along with Killzone 2 for the PS3, which was pushed back to February 2009 *cry*. Between Alan Wake and MGS4, my hype for these games are about the same. And I really love me some MGS4. Again, awesome blog and thanks for reminding us about Mr. Alan Wake. I'll catch you later!

I'm also looking forward to this one... if it ever makes it out. While Amazon's release dates are total crap, I do recall hearing talk that it would be out in late 08 or early 09. We'll see if that actually comes to fruition

I sometimes wonder why the game is taking so long to develop. I mean, it was supposed to be an Xbox360 launch title. Like the majority however, I eagerly anticipate it's release. Let's hope we'll see it this fall/winter....though I doubt it.

The rumors I keep hearing all point to a 2009 release date, maybe early in the year.

I hope they get a release date nailed down. This is an interesting looking game that seems to have a good story from what I have read.

For some reason Alan Wake sounds like a very realistic game. I haven't heard a whole lot on it, but heard nothing but good things about it. It has an interesting concept to it and even though the release date isn't set as of now that's probably for the better. It gives them more time to develop it and make it an epic game. Just like RE5, I want them to take all the time they want with that one to make it as perfect as possble.

I've been waiting for this game for a while, after I saw that video that had a tornado in it, I couldn't wait.
