On 29th February 2008 announced Eidos stated in a press release that, unforunately, they plan on cutting 25% of jobs at their headquarters shortly. Phil Rogers, Chief Executive of SCi Entertainment Group said, "The cost of delivering world-class games has increased significantly and we must provide appropriate levels of resource to maximize these opportunities...Our cornerstone franchises, such as Tomb Raider that has already sold 35 million units, have the potential to deliver significant profits and substantial returns on investment, which should not be diluted by more run-of-the-mill games."
The company's management resigned in early 2008 following the announcement that previously announced talks with another party for a buyout were not fulfilled. The company's new management has decided to cut its workforce to 800 people, a reduction of 25 percent (meaning over 200 jobs will be lost). In addition, SCi will cancel plans to publish 14 projects that it states "will not deliver the returns we require."
Hopefully, there won't a lack of updates for Tomb Raider: Underworld scheduled to be released in December 2008.

Now it's on to Tomb Raider Legend (I have owned that game since August 2006, but I wanted to play the series in order, so it's until now that I'm able to play it).

Anytime a company has to make massive cuts in its staff is a reason to be worried about the future of said company, as well as the quality of any products said company was gonna release.
You could say that canceling those 14 projects was a good move, because otherwise all of those games could've potentially been disastrous if developed by understaffed team.
Let's hope this doesn't hamper the development of Tomb Raider Underworld.
