I **** hate how these forums are ran now, and i have for a while.

That's only your first moderation in six years? I'm impressed. I thought for sure I'd moderated you for something stupid somewhere along the line... 
The forums definitely aren't the same as they used to be, and thus need to be handled differently as far as rules go. It sucks, but blame it on the huge increase of users first and foremost. The moderation team is doing a pretty good job, for the most part, though I occasionally come across a moderation and have to think wtf mate?
