If you're not convinced of Hugh Laurie's talent through his work on House, you're only getting a small part of it. Check out his work on Black Adder, Jeeves and Wooster, and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. From his roots in the Cambridge Footlights, his gift for humor embraces the witty and urbane, the deadpan delivery, as well as the frequent googly-eyed expressions.
He's also written The Gun Seller, which is a book I highly recommend. It's reminiscent of Douglas Adams' works, particularly Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. And if you ever catch an appearance of the Band from TV, check out his work on the keys. Remarkable.

This is the best Pixar movie yet. Exceptional depth and innovative storyline.

To preface this review, I should say that I have not read the books except for the first one, but that I have seen the preceding movies. The movie is lacking a lot of the directorial efforts that were apparent in the first four movies. Each of those did an excellent job of capturing the core elements of the story (and making them accessible to non-readers of the series). In addition, each director provided their own focus to the movie that did not detract from the spirit of the story - the dark tones of Cuaron, the boarding school focus of Newell, etc. In this movie, I just felt like a lot of things were missing, which seems like it would be problematic for future films to deal with aspects that were underdeveloped or even unexplored in this film.

It's your basic summer formula, which means if you sit through the predictable human elements, you are rewarded by robots whomping on each other in a way that only advanced computer-generated wizardry can offer. The differences (both technical and characteristic) between the animated Transformers we're all nostalgic for, and those realized by Michael Bay are probably enough to agitate the hardcore fan but not the average person who was a child growing up in the 1980's.
