While we were in Canada, The Sainted Husband and I partook of a long-time tradition: Hockey Night In Canada! It was fun and familiar, just the names and faces were different.

In Vancouver, there was a sports bar downstairs at our hostel, which made things easy. Especially when we had a triple-header during the first round of the Stanley Cup! I slept through the second game upstairs and The Sainted discovered poutine.

In Edmonton, we were tired and hungry and found a place in the West Edmonton Mall. Our server was rooting against Edmonton, and for the Ducks, due to a 'shave my head' bet. We ordered out, as we packed for the train, so we could watch hockey. (I adopt sports teams the way some folks adopt pets.)

When we got to Toronto, we did other things, but while doing laundry or chilling out, we watched hockey and basketball, but it was in the common room of the place we stayed in, so it wasn't the same.

I found folks to be very willing to explain things to an interested newbie, even if she was from Texas. (Not a lot of sympathy for the poor Stars' showing in round one.*g*) So, not too different from home, as I suspected.

The Sainted was so enamored of Vancouver (and poutine) that he declared that we'd return for the Olympics. We'll see about that, but we know a couple of places to check into for the return trip!

Might be more fun to return when the Olympics aren't on. I can only imagine how insane it's going to be in Vancouver when all of that is going on.

I totally live up here in good old Canada and playoffs is some of my favorite times of the year. I love hockey night in canada. It makes me laugh. I live alberta ('bout an hour or so away from edmonton)but i am cheering for Carolina because Ward(their goalie) played for the junior team in my town and we have season tickets and he lived with my math teacher who is also friends with my mom so i am cheering for carolina and it kinda makes people mad but whatev.
