It's been quite some time since I last made a post here. So I figured I might as well. Musicwise I haven't found a whole hell of a lot lately, My biggest find was Yndi Halda, which has already become a favorite of mine, some of the best Post-Rock I've ever heard. I've also been diggin' Velvet Cacoon's newest EP Dizzy From Eternity. I never cared for their BM work, but this is kind of a fuzzed out dreampop sound that kicks serious ass. Found a chick named Reiko Ike, a 16 year old Japanese porn star from the 70's, who apparently recorded an album. It sounds kinda like a mixture of lounge music and traditional Japanese folk, only with erotic overtones and "orgasmic" sounds. Quite interesting if nothing else, and quite surprising to have come out of the 70's. I've started writing more reviews over at RYM, so if you like my music you can check out my page over there. http://rateyourmusic.com/~Venom5000
I just beat Tenku no Escaflowne, a Playstation game based on the Anime. I have to say, that's one of the worst games I've ever played. I beat it in about an hour, of that hour there's maybe 5-6 minutes of gameplay. Most of it you sit and read what they're saying and don't actually do anything, which is loads of fun, especially when you can't read Japanese. Oh, and Sometimes there's a cutscene from the Anime, fun, right? and even more rarely you get to battle as Escaflowne, basically you just mash O for maybe a minute or two and the enemies drop like flies. I honestly can't say what drove me to complete the game, but I did. I'm just glad I downloaded it rather than paying some absurd price for an Import.
Yes, you read right, I downloaded it, so what? you got a problem with that? I'm getting back into Emulation Hardcore. You see when Emulation was still developing, I was right there. I remember having graphical errors on Gameboy games, I remember SNES Emus having compatibility lists. I remember N64 Emulation being nothing more than a fantasy. I remember... well, you get the idea, It was the 90's everything was 'new'. Anyway I was a part of the community just about up until GBA emulation began, I think I started to fall out around the 0600 Rom mark. It was then I discovered Music, via this 'new' Software called "Napster". Now I'm getting back into it Especially the Translation and Hacking community. I've began my journey into PS and DC Emulation now as well. I knew about it back when, but it always felt immoral due to the systems still being active or relatively active at least. I've decided to stick with just downloading hard-to-find and non domestic ISOs. For morality sake.
As far as my life goes, it's still much the same, same woman (I intend to keep her), same job (I'll be looking for a new one soon), same whatever else not. I went to a Sisters of Mercy concert some time ago, never wrote a 'report' though. Not much to report really, They're the first band I've seen that actually sounded better on recordings than live. I wore a white shirt with Donkey Kong on the front, just to fully alienate myself from the sea of black, and posers trying to look cool and "goth". It was kind of funny, but at the same time I was saddened by the fact that I put as much thought into my appearance as them, for shame. I'm heading to a Necrophagist Show Next week, should be pretty sweet. I'm also heading to MDF. May looks like it'll be a good month, don't forget free comic day, May 6th. http://www.freecomicbookday.com/ Seriously your not gonna pass up free ****, right? I knew you wouldn't, afterall you're not a total bastard.
http://www.myspace.com/yndihalda - Yndi Halda's Myspace, It's got the track Dash & Blast up, which is one of my favorite pieces from the Demo.
