I know there is some debate over this film. Many people have said that the film portrays Billy Mitchell as villain and Steve Wiebe as the good guy. Personally I have always thought that Billy came across as arrogant way before this movie was even thought of. However, the man is one of the best classic gamers alive and I have nothing but respect for him. With that said, I really enjoyed watching this movie. I loved playing Donkey Kong growing up and I like most viewers enjoyed rooting for the underdog Steve Wiebe the entire film. I think it is hard to make a documentary film about video games and have a main stream audience become interested and stay interested. I think this movie shows that it is possible. I've read rumors that Hollywood wants to remake this movie with actors. I hope this is a joke. As a gamer I really have no interest in watching actor pretend to play videos games.

So when I first heard about this movie I thought it was going to be like most movies involving video games which are normally cheesy with no real plot. Well I have to say I really like the concept of this movie being a gamer myself. However I can think of a long list of movies that had great concepts but their actual stories fell short. Sad to say this is another movie to add to that list. I must say I really liked the game in the movie. I wish they also made the game along with movie minus the being killed if you play it part. :) The acting wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. First off let me say that I really enjoyed the original "House on Haunted Hill." Vincent Price is totally what makes that film in my opinion. With that said I first questioned why remake this film when the best part of the movie couldn't be replicated since Mr. Price is no longer with us. Well I think the people involved with the making of this movie realized how import Vincent Price was to the original film and tried their best to bring some aspect of his performance to this remake. They did this by creating a character named Steven Price played by Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush. Now of course Mr. Rush is no Vincent Price but I believe he is the next best thing. Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen and Chris Kattan are what makes this movie bearable and at times enjoyable to watch. With that said any scene without one of these actors is just plain boring. I'm still a little surprised I gave this movie 3 stars, but I had to because unlike the original this movie had three great performances instead of just one. *Note* I gave the original "House on Hunted Hill" 3 and a half stars.

Poor Guy Ritchie, he makes two great films ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch"), marries Madonna and film career gets called into question because of this film he decided to make with his new bride. This movie is a remake, so that in itself is a challenge. That fact, plus a bad script and poor acting from the lead character (Madonna), equals disaster. How bad is the acting? What like about this film is its simplicity. It puts six strangers in a booby trapped cubical chamber with no food or water. The six people must find away out of the chamber in a certain period of time by working together. Not only is the plot simplistic but so is the set of the film itself. This film was shot with a small budget and I'm almost sure they only used one or two sets (rooms) and changed its color when the characters move from room to room.

The down side of this film is the overall acting is satisfactory at best. However what disappointed me the most was the film's ending. The big question is left unanswered along with other smaller ones. The film does have a prequel and a sequel that attempts to answer some of these questions but both films (especially the sequel) are inferior to this one.

With all that said I still believe this film is worth watching.

I knew I was going to like this film because the script was written by the very talented Tina Fey. However, I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I did. I'm not one to often laugh out loud while watching a film, but with lines like "You smell like a baby prostitute," how could I not? This film does a great job of exploring (in a comedic fashion) some of the nasty, petty, and yes, "mean" things that high school girls sometimes do to each other. Tina Fey did her research, and she did it well. This film has a number of great characters that were all well cast. While I am not a Lindsay Lohan fan by any means, she is very tolerable--almost likable--in this film. Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried all do excellent jobs portraying "The Plastics", but it's Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian) and Daniel Franzese (Damian) I find to be the most amusing. With numerous former and present SNL cast members making appearances, a smile on your face is almost a guarantee. So if you have 96 minutes to spare, this is a movie to definitely keep in mind.

The whole time I'm watching the movie I was thinking this is just like the game. They had the music ques and the sound effects so I really felt like I was in the game. With all that said if you have never played the game or if you don't like the game then most of what happens on screen is not enough to pull you in. This movie is strictly for the fans. The movie starts off very slow much like the game. This will not please the average American movie goer. The entire movie is VERY slow paced and I don't think non fans will feel rewarded with the way the film ends. Bottom line: I believe this film should be skipped over if you are not a fan of the game but fans should check it out if they have the time.

The story was weak and the only funny line came from an eight year girl ad libbing. The only reason I watched this movie in the first place is because I'm a huge Lauren Graham fan. Well God himself couldn't save this film. I realize this is "kids movie" but Pixar has proven over and over again that you can make a kids movie that also speaks to adults. If you're adult don't waste your time on this horrible movie.
