I'm really looking at a 360 very seriously now. Mass Effect is coming out, and I can get in on Orange Box, Dead Rising, Gears of War, Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, and a menagerie of other excellent games. While the PS3 is still very alluring the content just isn't enough to attract me. Certainly Metal Gear Solid 4 looks absolutely mind bogglingly fun, but it really has turned into the only real game attracting me to the PS3.

The downside to this plan, is that I don't really like the 360... I'm not at all familiar with the controller, and I'm not a big Microsoft fanboy. I actually really like the PS3 as a console, but Sony is making it too difficult to warrent a purchase. I don't know if I buy a PS3 it might be obsolete in a few days, or they might just make the features I bought for too much money outdated and useless a few months down the road by making a new model with new features and focusing on that as 'standard' and leaving everyone else to catch up.

I've been saying this for over a year now, and I think might just be crazy. I'm fairly 'frugal' with money, or at least I like to think I am. I'm also planning on buying a new TV soon, and although I would love to get that first, I know some good deals will come up closer to Christmas.

Until then?

You seem too scared of trying something new, like the different controller as you said. Just because it's not the same as the old PS2 controller, doesn't mean it's better. I had a PS2 for years, I really liked the controller, but once I got the Xbox 360, I noticed how much better it was. It's not really about the console, it's about the games. Go for the console with the most entertainment value. And after a while, then I'm sure you're gonna like the 360.

The 360, in my opinoin, is easy to get used to, I have played it a few times and I got used to the controller quite quickly. However, I think now is the time to deicde PS3 or 360. The PS3 seems to be making a crappy version (40GB) which don't look so good, so I would now buy wither the 60GB version of the PS3 or the 360. Entirley up to you though.

Both valid points. And it's not that I'm afraid to try something new, K4ss3r, after all I do own the Wii which is very different... It's just that I missed out on nearly every X-box game. (okay, every X-box game) While coming into the PS3 there are a lot of old series with new titles. With the 360 I would be picking up in the middle of things or I would spend a lot of time going back and buying older games.

I do have agree with you Coolcon. The new PS3 model sucks horribly. It wont even play PS2 games. Ridiculous. It's also a good thing they are making Six-axis controllers with rumble feature... Too bad they aren't packaging it with the console itself...

Wow, I just wrote a big post that was deleted. #@$& fantastic.

Anyway to sum up what I said. I agree with both of you. Although I didn't mean that the controller was the only thing unfamiliar. The game series and titles are different. I'd be coming in late on a lot of things.

To Coolcon, I have to agree with you as well. The new PS3 model sucks something horrible, with no PS2 support... Terrible.

I'm still thinking about a buy, but I'm not sure. I will say... if MGS4 went to the 360 I would buy it that very day. Thats all it takes...

It's never too late to try a new gaming series. And you don't have to go back any play every Xbox game, or some of the earlier Xbox 360 games. Just play whatever you wish. I personally haven't really played more than 5-6 original Xbox titles. I missed out on a few that I really wanted to play. It's always nice with a new fresh series to play through, instead of something you're already very familiar with. Both has it's pros and cons though.

Starting of in the middle of everything wouldn't be that bad either. I mean, there are some very story-driven games like Halo, where it might be the best if you know about the previous games, what happened and so on, before going on to the third game. But other games, such as PGR4, is completely independent on story, so you won't have to play any of the previous installments of the series to get the hang of it and enjoy the game. (Not saying that you can't enjoy Halo 3 without having played the first or second.)

But it's your choice. I hope you make whatever choice would seem the best for yourself.

(Oh, and it doesn't matter if you choose the 360 or PS3, you'll be able to get Assassin's Creed anyway! Which you have to get. )
