You're packing luggage for a long vacation?

In my experience, I'll be running around, making sure I have everything I could possibly need or want in my bags and making last minute changes as needed for this great trip I have planned...only to wake up before I even get to the airport. Or, if I'm really lucky, I'll be all set to board the plane when reality decides to show up and slap me across the face.

* heavy sigh*

I have these dreams quite often and I hate them. I hate them with every fiber of my being. I hate the fact that my subconscious mind continuously tortures me with the fact that I desperately want to take a vacation to some far off land but I lack both the time (can't miss school right now) and the resources ($$$) to make my dreams a reality. What's worse is I'm not skilled enough in the art of lucid dreaming to be able to recognize that these dreams aren't real and stop them before I get too excited. It's really depressing waking up and realizing that everything I just experienced was all a very convincing lie constructed to remind me of all the great things that I just can't do right now.

*Another heavy sigh*

Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? Does anyone have any tips for stopping these dreams in their tracks?

I've definitly had similar dreams, although most a video game-related, were I want a new video game, and just as I get home to play it....I wake up . But no, I've never had a dream where I'm packing for a vacation.

@GamerJM: I've had video game related dreams similar to the ones I've described as well. Those never hit me especially hard since picking up a video game is infinitely easier than dropping everything and going on vacation.

Well, I have teasing day-dreams that make me think of all the beautiful days out there that I miss out on and wish I had friends to enjoy with. And since I'm one of the few out there who actually loved high school, I often look back and wish I could re-live those days rather than do college right now (especially this semester). Not really the same but it's something I get bothered by. I can only hope UCF will be better than IRSC.

Keep a dream journal, and as soon as you wake up from a dream, write down every single detail you can remember. You will be very groggy and in no mood to record the dream, but that's too bad
Eventually, after recording multiple dreams (not sure how many), you begin to see patterns that your dreams share, and with that knowledge, you are more likely to identify the dream as a dream while you are dreaming it.

I've had dreams where I was doing my homework exactly right, but then I wake up and have to do it again. And the worst part is that I didn't really do it right in the dream!!

I've had many dreams like that, not particularly dealing with vacations but just things I want but don't necessarily think about all the time. Like a subconscious deep desire like you described, and the torturous thing about it is that I didn't care about that want all that much until having that damn dream, which seemed so real. BAH! It could ruin a day lemmy tell ya !_!.

It's a sign. It's telling you take a long vacation.

No... most dreams I have are about something going wrong in one of three ways..
1. Someone dies
2. I die
3. We all die
I know that sounds grim, but... well more often or not I have a pleasant dream or I recognize that a dream is going to be grim and manage to control the situation and turn the outcome into something more positive.
