Because on New Year's Eve, so many break into verse (I love ya man) and have no idea of what the words are and less clue to what they mean, here you go - if you think you can remember

The 'translations' for the less obvious are in red

Should auld acquaintance be forgot, (Should times gone by be forgotten?)
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, (should old acquaintances be forgotten?)
And auld lang syne? (and times gone by)

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear, (for times gone by, my dear)
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet, (we'll take a cup of kindness yet)
For auld lang syne!

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp, (and surely you'll pay for your pint tankard)
And surely I'll be mine, (and surely I'll pay for mine)
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes, (we two have run about the hills)
And pou'd the gowans fine, (and pulled the fine daiseys)
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit, (but we've wandered many a weary foot)
Sin auld lang syne. (since the times gone by)

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn (we two have paddled in the stream)
Frae morning sun till dine, (from noon to dinner time)
But seas between us braid hae roar'd (but seas between us, broad, have roared)
Sin auld lang syne. (since the times gone by)

And there's a hand my trusty fiere, (here's a hand my trusty friend)
And gie's a hand o thine, (and give your hand to mine)
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught, (we'll take a goodwill drink)
For auld lang syne (for times gone by)

Happy New Year

all of you beautiful,

good hearted and dedicated people!

So Mary shall we drink a pint o' (ginger) ale? You and yours are in my heart and thoughts. KFC Now the trick is to remembering it. You know by midnight it's likely to be just a lot of Fah la ya ya yaaaahhhh Indiana Just wait 'til I do the Star Spangled Banner

You're probably right -- no one will remember the translation when they're singing at 11:59 pm on New Year's Eve. Oh well. I'm sure the spirit of the words will still get across. Either that or just some spirits (as in whisky, vodka, gin...). Stay safe and watch out for the drunk drivers, and Happy New Year.

I never knew that there was more than one verse! Here's a fun trivia fact... in Japan, at closing time in all the department stores, they play "Auld Lang Syne". It kind of makes sense, I guess... it's for the close of the year, the close of the business day...whatever!

Happy New Year, Rev!

Such a great sentiment. I always adored the line,"We'll take a cup of kindness yet." ahhhh,if we could only brew such a drink. Happy New Year!
