These are success stories

It's been a busy summer - more than 200 animals rescued by my little, independent rescue org and a crew of devoted volunteers who were (and are) out there every single day and night.

Not only do they do all this for no pay, but they often provide the food and supplies they use for the feeding stations

When you see what we see, you'd all have to agree that it's people who need to be licensed.

I'd have everyone required to put in a week in animal care and rescue before they were allowed to take home even a hamster from a pet store

Can't tell you how many of them

and guinea pigs

and mice and rats...

that we get.

What's the most ridiculously uninformed, selfish and just plain mean comment we hear?

"I only paid $10 for this thing. I'm NOT going to pay $35. for a vet visit and have to pay for medications to fix it. I'll just get another one"

A life is a life, no matter how small

It's not the cost of the adoption (sale) as much as the value of the life!

And of course the people who think cats are born to be wild

(then why do they have them?)

and spay/neuter is too much money or trouble

We continue to clean up their messes at our own expense

The saddest part is that not all of our efforts are success stories

So, when I have a few minutes I'm here, I'm trying to keep up on what you're all doing and how you've been

I haven't forgotten my friends even though it looks like I have

I'm here

You there?

I'm here and right with you in this fight. If I had a dime for every time someone said to us at HRS, "Rabbits can live to 14? We used to have bunnies when we were kids and they only lived___ (insert ridiculous time frame here such as six months to tops, one year.)."

Yep, no bunny for you...

Sending you White Light for your courage and perseverance on what can often feel like a losing battle.

I'm still kicking and around. I agree, people should have to take at least some kind of class on how to take care of a pet before they buy or adopt. You have to take a 4 hour class before you get your Drivers License (at least here). You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't understand people. I paid $800 for my "free" snake (I raised her from an egg). They're not interchangeable auto parts. How about the people who gave their 15 year old cat to the pound saying they no longer had time for it!! You had time for the last 15 years, what's a little more? If you want your time all to yourself, don't adopt a pet.

Yes, we've missed you, but I'd much rather miss you knowing your time was being so well spent. It's good to hear from you and I LOFF not only seeing the success stories, but the message in your blog. You are a hero to many lives, big and small!

Aww darlin, you are a saint for what you do. I really do need to look into local rescue operations. I'd certainly be able to help loads of the time. Thanks again for the heads up, I'm off to check things out now.

X-Full I'm betting there's a few little ones just like this at a shelter near you Just waiting to go home with that very cool name!

Kimba Bunnies! Yes - and why do people think they're perfectly happy in those awful hutches with wire bottoms? And not understand how smart they are !

Skeeter I'd be thrilled to give a free one hour orientation to prospective pet owners, but I know they would rarely attend willingly

Sesho I love snakes! Not exactly the thing to have around big macaws though. I re homed a Gopher snake named Charlie this summer. He was the best guy!

KFC I've been following the little ones - well, not like really in a stalker sort of way :/ but it seems they've got you running!

SweetPea I think you'd be ACES doing something like this. No kidding! Check VolunteerMatch.com for stuff in your area. I can see you getting into it big time.

If you're not gonna pay for a vet bill then DON'T GET A PET! And if I wanted a cat I'd have one so KEEP YOURS AT *YOUR* HOUSE! Ugh... those are both sensitive spots for me. I get so mad when people don't take of their animals. There's no reason for people not to take care of their animals.

What a noble volunteering job this is..poor little animals who can't defend themselves against the world today...thank you for helping them and God bless those who adopt them as well.

Jenlar I wish I could be that outspoken. I have to be soooo nice. If I'm not, the people might ignore the animal altogether

Jenlar You know, honestly, I feel these animals are the noble ones. They have a tendency to forgive and willingness to trust again that is remarkable.

You're doing a wonderful job that obviously comes straight from the heart.

Big time hugs from the Maritimer!!!
