You know that theme that CBS sports uses for their football game coverage? Its stuck in my head after watching the absolute dominance of the Florida Gators (formerly #5 and 4-0, now #13 and 4-1) by the Alabama Crimson Tide (formerly #15 and 4-0, now #7 and 5-0) on Saturday.
Ever since the first offensive play in Alabama's scrimmage when Croyle hooked up with Prothro for an 87-yard TD completion, Florida's back was against the wall, and it showed. In their offense, their defense, and their fanbase at the stadium.
Leak, the talented Florida Quarterback (and I dont mean that sarcastically, he is one of the best in the NCAA) who had failed to throw an interception in the 2005 season, had two throws picked off by the Tide, which also set him short of his school's record for passes-without-interceptions. When in his stride and comfortable, Leak can throw every bit as good as Alabama's Brodie Croyle, but he never looked comfortable the whole game. Then again, who can blame him? Alabama's defense is one of the best in the country, and it was clear who was winning the battle on the line each time Florida posessed the ball.
As Florida's head coach put it, "That team in red was much more prepared than the team in orange. They were faster, smarter, and more aggressive than us today."
Now, after winning what is being called the biggest Bama game in 6 years, Bama is back in the national spotlight. They gained 8 ranks and took over #7 in the AP. They are now only one of 12 teams in the NCAA I-A who are currently undefeated, and if things keep up, and key teams in the top 10 start to lose, Alabama will not only be in a bowl game, they could have a slight shot at a national title game.
Anyway, Bama has the weekend off, and its good timing for them. The only other undefeated team in the SEC, Georgia, plays the Tide's next major challenge, Tennessee, this weekend. This is a great way to evaluate their next opponent, and could even advance Alabama's shot at the SEC title if Georgia loses, as well as possibly advance the Tide's rank in the AP. Not to mention, theres a decent chance Bama could play Georgia for the SEC title.
Bama has alot ahead of them. Tennessee. LSU. Auburn. All of them are sure to be good games, and win, lose, or otherwise, its good to see Bama fans have something to be proud of again.
Roll Tide.
