Ok, so I see this blog ditty here and think "Oh well, might as well use it". But before I become a semi-regular here I about I'd post a little about myself as if you people cared.

First off, I'm a writer for a small multi-purpose website called Binary Culture. We focus on a lot of stuff; gaming, animation, entertainment, sort of like IGN only we don't have their revenue stream and we don't suck. I serve as their Gaming writer and at times Co-Animation Editor. But my major role IMHO is as the unOfficial Head of Staff Recruiting, aka HR Guy. When it comes to our new hires I'm one of the people who helps the process run smoothly. So it's a job (Job? I don't make no money ) that I enjoy because I love writing about gaming or just writing in general. I can still remember playing games like Resident Evil 2 and Parasite Eve when I was younger and breaking down the gameplay. I knew alot about it and like all gamers was like "Hey, I can do this!!" and blindly sent my rather bare gaming resume to every publication and dot com known to man. I'm proud to say I've been rejected by some of the best gamesites out there . . .

Anyway, I suppose I should use this space for actual TV related stuff, so I'll do so in the future. I used to visit the site a lot and love the look of it. Also if you're interested in writing for a small site to help build your writing resume give me a holla at thefrankman@binaryculture.net. And I'm looking forward to talking with my Animation heads out there. Viva la Animation!!

EDIT: I'm an idiot, I shouldn't just posted our site's intro e-mail while I was at it. I don't always check this regularly, so if you are interested post a comment AND e-mail the link. I hope we get some interested parties.

BinaryCulture.net is always on the look-out for new writers, but now is an especially important time for us to build up our staff for the things we plan to do.

General Assignment Writers/Columnists - We are looking for people who can write/report for any or all of our sections, people who can cover a wide variety of subjects dealing with gaming/movie/etc. culture, a jack-of-all-trades if you will. Be it in-depth interviews, nostalgia, or a close look at a particular segment, we need intelligent, well-spoken writers with a sharp sense of humor. If you can inform as well as make us laugh, we want you on our team. You aren't necessarily assigned a "niche" title and can be assigned stories as they arise, but also can write their own stories with the editors' permission.

Dedicated Game Reviewers - This is the job most everyone wants, which is why we are fairly picky about whom we bring on board. We want writers with a good sense of humor; we also want reviewers who will focus on more than just gameplay, graphics and sound. We want reviewers who will pick up the little details, the parts of the game that suck you in and the parts that spit you out. We want reviewers who look at the entire experience as a whole. If you can demonstrate these qualities, you're fine with reviewing any game (not just the big ones), you're able to come up with at least one review a month on your own, and don't mind getting a free game now and then (ah HA, there we go!), please contact us right away. We cover, PS2, Xbox, XBox 360, Gamecube, and all current handheld systems as well as PC and Mac. You will be required to write at least one gaming news article every 1.5 weeks.

Dedicated Japanese Anime Reviewers/Writers - We especially are looking to bolster our Japanese anime staff. We're looking for opinionated people who can report on the latest news on the "anime" front. We also are looking for people who can break down an animation dubbed, subbed, or even fansubbed if need be. They also must be able to comment on the shows airing on TV ([adult swim], G4TechTV, Anime Network, etc.). In other words read what we want for our Game Reviewers, insert the word Japanese anime where it says "game" and you understand what we want. News Writers will be required to write at least one Japanese anime-related news article every 1.5 weeks, Reviewers every month unless assigned a review.

Dedicated News Writers - There's so much fluff news out there that it's hard to find the stuff that matters. We need newshounds and reporters - people who will find these good stories, research them a step further and report on them. We need people who will take these stories and tell our readers how these stories relate to them. And as always, there has to be a good dose of humor in there. Basically writing news that will appear on the homepage will be your speciality. You will have NO BORDERS on what you report, as long as they are somewhat current and relate to one of the sections we cover. Interested? Contact us ASAP.

Dedicated Media Writers- Here you'll specialize in covering topics in movies, music, TV and other topics of entertainment. This also encompasses reviewing positions (such as Movie/Music Reviewer) Like what you saw on 24 last night? What's up with Kanye West lately? How about the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? Parameters of what will be expected for the position are not written in stone yet.

Dedicated Comic/Manga Writers and Artists - We're looking for people interested in talking/writing about the latest in comic news. Gaiman, Morrision, DC, Marvel . . . you cover the comic world. Batwoman is back as a lipstick lesbian? Avi Arad goes independent? We want to see coverage of it. We'd also like to get a wide variety of panel comics not all necessarily related to gaming. Also If there are any established web comic artists out there looking for a venue to promote your work, this is a good, free place to do it. We are looking for comics on a regular basis (time schedule can be discussed) and also freelance, temporary comics. For instance, if your web comic is in the mold of VGCats, Troy's Bucket or Penny Arcade, we'd be happy to host it along with a link to your site.

Graphic/Website Designers - To accentuate and highlight the site's articles we need people skilled in many facets of multimedia design. Macromedia Flash MX 2004, Illustrator, XHTML, Windows Moviemaker, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, whatever.

Custom Position- Anything you can think of! Just propose it.

If any of these, or all, positions seem like a fit to you, please email us at jobs@binaryculture.net. We ask that you are a high school graduate and at the very least 18 years of age and own one current video game console or handheld - PS2, XBox, XBox 360, GameCube, GameBoy Advance SP, PSP, Nintendo DS or NGage - or a PC that can run the majority of new PC game releases (Doom 3, Guild Wars, World of WarCraft). Our mission is not just to cover stuff like gaming and Japanese anime, but to examine those who make them, those who play them, those who influence them, and to challenge what is accepted in each.

So, what do you actually GET from working with us? Glad you asked. As BinaryCulture.net doesn't actually generate revenue RIGHT NOW, we can't actually pay anyone (At least not yet). So all jobs, of course, are on a volunteer basis. That doesn't mean you don't get anything, however.

- A large amount of Editorial Freedom: We are not One Website, One Viewpoint. Our writers are encouraged to have differing opinions on a wide variety of subjects and are even encouraged more so to discuss them within their articles and on our forums. Provided there is no hate speech or libel involved, our staff is encouraged to write about anything they please.

- Intellectual ownership: By writing for our website, you are agreeing to allow us to print your work on our site, thus making the work yours. Anything you write for BC, you are free to send other websites or publications for their consideration as well. To put it simply, you own all rights to the article - all we get to do is post it.

- Free Stuff!!! Ok, don't get too excited. As a smaller website, we don't get access to a lot of the same materials that some of the larger publications do. However, we do have a good relationship with a lot of game publishers around the world. If there is a particular game you would like to review, it's usually not too much trouble for us to get. We keep this aspect intentionally vague in order to bring in people who really want to write as opposed to just wanting free games. Contact The Frankman for more info.

- Press Credentials! As a writer for a website you have the power of the pen -- err, keyboard. Thus people who want their stuff hyped need you to write about them. Meaning as a member of the press 75% of the time if you formally request a press pass for an event you will get in for free (if you make sure to do some interviews/write-ups. Also, everyone who writes for us will have an opportunity to attend special events/conventions like E3 and San Diego Comic-Con.

So help us bring forth a revolution. We're not just out to make a great independent gaming website. We're hoping to be a part of making independent journalism a real force in the industry (In other words, IGN without teh s uckiness) . If you're an ambitious person, love writing, have a good sense of humor, we want you. Also, I cannot stress this enough . . . if you are knowledgeable on multimedia/web design applications we'd love to have you. We have positions open. JUST BRING YOUR opinions.

The Frankman
- Gaming Writer/Co-Japanese Anime Editor for BC.net

Some people just don't have opinions. Like TheFrankman.
TheFrankman must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could TheFrankman possibly have for not rating a single film?
