Section 8 is a FPS shooter that takes place in the future, where the colonies under the United States have fallen to an insurrection that spread like wildfire through the systems. The 8th Armored Infantry Regiment (shortened to "Section 8") of the United States military is sent to contain the threat. Sent in first to the frontlines, the elite Section 8 is the spearhead of the assault.

Curiously, according to the website, Section 8 also refers to a part under military doctrine which discharges soldiers due to being mentally unfit to fight. A twist on the title, as the website explains that the 8th commonly volunteers itself for missions that would normally be considered suicide.

An unusually Battlefield-like shooter that mysteriously appears out of nowhere with one trailer that shows extremely good promise? We'll see. Timegate claims that they have some new twists on the formula with "burning in" (orbital drop to anywhere on the map) and on-demand vehicle and supply deliveries. Not to mention that their suits look awesome.

Beta is at FilePlanet (curiously, I am unable to find the link).

Homepage is at JoinSection8.com

Their second video (first video didn't hold much): Finish Trailer

It's being made by Timegate Studios, creators of the dreaded FEAR expansion packs and the decent RTS games Axis and Allies, and Kohan. Just throwing it out there because it's literally nonexistent as of right now.

well I pay quite a lot of emphasis on past games from dev studios, it's rare for a studio who hasn't made any great games to make a great game.

Also that prerendered video doesn't really show much either.

But FPS fan I am I'll keep an eye out for it and check the demo if it comes

I've been lookin into this game for quite a long time. Yeah, pretty much non-existent. Odd, really. And I've barely heard of their publisher.

I'm pretty sure I got an e-mail about beta sign-up, though I can't find it, but I have signed up.

@nutcrackr:
I hope they do good. Don't need another company going out of business.

@nav_auron:
Try the beta, if not only just to see if the game is good. I'm still waiting on mine.

@aaron:
It looks okay. Well, we'll see.

@Flipyap:
