I wasn't planning on posting a blog to promote this review (at least until my Tekken series blog, which I'll post in a few days). But I so enjoyed this review, I wanted to make sure people knew about it. Usually, when I post blogs advertising my reviews, a lot more people read them and comment. Of all the reviews I've written, this one might be my favorite. My favorite review, that is, not my favorite game (not by a long shot!).

Death By Degrees review

I did it in the same sort of way I did my A Bug's Life review a while back. That one was pretty well-received so I hope this one will be too. Please read the review and post your comments here. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. I can handle criticism.

Uh oh... I have this game. I haven't played it though. It's pretty far down my list of priorities at the moment. Thumbs up on the review! It was fun to read.

Pretty scathing review. I played the game via rental a while back and I didn't think it was horrible. Nina happens to be my favorite Tekken character to play as (second being Kazuya) so I was eager to see how the game turned out. I thought the right stick fight controls were innovative, but poorly implemented. What killed the game the most for me was the horrendous loading times. I could have dealt with everything else, but the game pausing for 5-10 seconds whenever you did virtually anything that required loading was a deal breaker.

I thought it was a good first try and something to build from, but I guess it didn't make enough money for Namco to feel the same.

Good review. I already own this game and haven't played it yet also.

I was looking forward to the game...until I read reviews for it and all of them had nothing nice to say about it. lol Death by Disease. Great review.

Dualmask: I don't think the right analog stick controls were innovative. As I mentioned in the review, there were tons of games coming out around this time with the right analog stick controls. I mentioned Rise to Honor, but even the Smackdown vs. Raw series started using its own take on the right analog controls. There were others too. It was a pretty common trend at that time. I don't know what the first game was to have the right stick controls (I'm pretty sure it wasn't Death By Degrees though), but whatever that game was, I hope it's burning in hell, because those right stick fighting controls were a horrible idea..

I don't know if I'd consider this a decent "first try". It may have been a first try for the Tekken series, but Namco has made tons of games like this before, and we saw tons of games like it for the PS2 before it. I'd say it was just a bad game, that Namco tried to save by throwing in a Tekken character to hopefully make some sales out of it.. The Devil Within side game from Tekken 5 was hugely better than Death By Degrees, and it was just an extra. That's just my opinion. I was looking through some of the other user reviews after I posted mine, and the last few ones were actually very positive. There's even a few 10s in there.

@TheBuck27 well, it was the first and only game I recall playing where the attacks were controlled solely by the right stick. I wasn't saying it worked out well, I just said it was an innovative idea. Innovation isn't always a good thing...not if it isn't implemented well. After all, the Virtual Boy was innovative too.

I figured it'd suck. It just had that "suck" air about it. Often, the "look we're soooo cool" vibe precedes suckage. Rumble Roses, Extreme Beach Volleyball, ect.. for the original XBox had a similar vibe.

I should take your advice instead of posting reviews on games undercover like, lol. Anyway, I recommendaed the review. Since I dont have a PS2 I cant really play the game.

If I was able to get the game, I think this line would keep me from buying it
"Even the save system is horrendous. There are save points throughout the levels, but the game doesn't just show you where they are. That would be too simple. Instead, there's this stupid system that makes you search for the save points. Every so often, when you get near a save point, a box will pop up in the top right of the corner with three lights. One light means you're near a save point. As you're getting warmer, the second light turns on. And when you finally find it, the save point will light up, and then you can save the game. It's annoying and completely pointless. Why does it make you search for the save point just to save the damn game? "
