I missed far too many blogs to simply go back and check on every last one. So instead, anyone that leaves a legit comment on this blog will auto-receive a visit from me and I'll check your blogs that way. Sneaky? Yes. Underhanded? That's subjective. And speaking of subjectivity, let's bring up moderators.

As we all know, you must be mindful of what you say, because saying something offensive will just end you in a suspension and/or ban and I get this slight feeling that every so often, a mod comes by my blogs. Don't ask how I know, just trust. This blog is all about the stories and trials you faced with moderation or moderators. Do you believe you got warned/point-loss/suspended/...banned unfairly? Do you believe the mods are being too harsh? Just tell it all here on this blog then. And please remember:

Try not to bash anyone or anything Gamespot related!

My most recent story is pretty decent to start. I basically/literally called someone a cliche' casual gamer, and my post was deleted and I received a warning. Apparently, posters like to say casual-gamer-like things and then cry when I call them out. I didn't mind too much, so I won't go on a tangent. With that said, your turn. Moderators, I hope this doesn't go against the rules~

I thinks Gs can be unfair sometimes Ive had quite a few posts deleted for no reason they were'nt offencive or anything

I quoted a user that was censor bypassing, and I got a warning because of it. I also advertised for a UCB in Roll Call and got a warning + point loss. I'm not really worried about it, there are certain things that you can't do anything about. Its just one more reason why I don't hang out in system wars much.

As someone who was modded for something posted on one of YOUR blogs which gave me a weeks posting holiday I think that there are a lot of moderations handed out that are overly sensitive.

It's been stated in the Moderation forums that when modding posts they don't check any of the other posts in that forum so it's easy for them to take something out of context simply because they've not looked at what preceeded the reported comment.

I used to get moderated a lot when I first came on here but had gone a good few months without anything then suddenly... bang... 7 day holiday because some window licker got over sensitive about something I wrote.

I posted a suggestion in what to name a soon-to-be-made forum, and they moderated me for disruptive posting. The post read MONSTER TRUCKSSSS!!!! (which was a completely legit suggestion), so after taking it up with the mods, they had to reverse my moderation.

Just a few days after, I got more moderations for my sig's file size. I pointed out that THEIR OWN RULES ON A STICKIED THREAD clearly stated that filesizes are non-limited as long as it's on a third party hosting site, and so after posting my complaint on the moderation board, they immediately locked the thread with some crap about moderator's discretion. It looked like they were trying to cover up their screw-ups, so I took it to a PM, and they were forced to reverse-moderate me AGAIN. After that, they had to change the rules thread because of me

Keep it up mods. I love how those reversed moderations look on my record.

Uhhh...I did things in places I wasn't supposed to, the mods of course no likey, and I didn't have my Haruhi gif of protection. Namely they were all my fault.

Except when I told someone who was hijacking with me(and has a couple times) to "Suck it". Got modded for being "offensive". I mean isn't the whole reason you get friendly with people is to say offensive things to them without it being "offensive"?

Let me pick one from my 30+ moderations...I will get back to you in about 3-5 years.
Posted Aug 11, 2009 8:34 pm PT
I've kept a relatively clean history.... I had a warning a couple of months ago....for making a list thread in the GGD forum. . I recognize it was my fault, no big deal as a warning.

I haven't been modded in a while. I've really learned how to get my point across while avoiding moderations in almost any circumstance due to my lengthy experience with the rules, the moderations I've gotten, and the mods themselves.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that I don't get moderated by accident anymore. When I do get modded nowadays, I pretty much see it coming or anticipate getting one based on the way I've been posting recently.

I do believe that most moderators make acceptable or understandable judgment calls, and most of them are not prone to losing control. There certainly have been a fair share of questionable judgment calls that I've witnessed, but it's mostly okay.

Hmmm.... Hmmmm.... Hmmmmm....

Nope, nothing come to mind. Guess I am a saint

???i dun understand????
Posted Aug 12, 2009 12:05 am PT
I don't really have any "interesting" moderation stories because I deserved all of mine. I was clearly insulting other users and knew I would probably get modded when I did it. I haven't been modded in awhile though since I get banned if I do again (according to my last suspension)

Well when I first joined gamespot I wanted some people to join my reviewing team, and posted a topic each in the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 boards. I left for the night and when I came back I had about 10 messages in my inbox saying all this stuff about SPAM and Advertising. I got a 7 day suspension, because of the fact that there were a lot of topics about it. I didn't come back to GameSpot for about 6 or 7 months though. I understand why I was suspended though, and what a dumb thing to do!
Posted Aug 12, 2009 2:19 am PT
I have gotten in trouble one time had a suspension of a week, but I deserved it though because I went against GS rules. Now I try my best not to do that stuff again. But sorry to hear about you though at least you are back again.

I got a warning one time in my own blog, never got a reason either. I know it's just a warning and even mods ignore it when looking at your history but still.
Posted Aug 12, 2009 11:04 am PT
The only time i ever got modded was for mentioning emulators and the psp in someones comment. I won't quote myself exactly because the last thing i want is to be modded again. I was pretty irked about it though. When i looked up exactly what rule i broke i didn't actually break it. I did not provide any information on how to obtain emulators, roms, or anything of the sort. Which is what the rule said was not allowed. Oh well, its just a topic i will never discuss again.

Pretty much the most disputable moderation I've recieved would be when I was "warned" for only partially censoring the word ass (I typed it as a*s for some reason). Ass isn't a banned word. I mostly just laughed at the ridiculousness.

I can't find the moderation history on this new layout but Last count I had 37 moderations. Not bad for a dude that spent less then a year being active on the forums. (from two months before the ps3 US release till the EU release. Since then I've gotten a bunch for my blogs, for refering to gay stuff and being too funny. Most of the moderations I got when Zeforgotten was banned and I made the zeforgotten thread. Think I got around 15 moderations that night.

Let me put it this way, if I never got moderated I'd be above level 40 now. Not kidding. Oooh btw Orlandun, you're not even allowed to mention emulation, I got modded for that once too.

I know I've been unfairly modded a few times, but I can't think of any offhand. Not any that are interesting anyway. Nice work, by the way, hazel. The sig-issue is one of my new favorites No mercy!
Posted Aug 12, 2009 9:50 pm PT
Yeah I think they cross the line and abuse authority from time to time.
Like that guy that accidentally called Uncharted, "Unfarted." Woo how offensive.
I haven't been modded in way over a year. Mostly because I don't post as much and I haven't been as risque I guess.
I couldn't care less about my level though. It means literally nothing to me.

I actually forgot how to check my mod history.

The entirety of my existence on these forums is a worthy moderation story. The mere fact that I haven't been banned yet is nothing short of a miracle. If I had a dollar for every time I've been moderated...I think you can guess where this is going.
Posted Aug 12, 2009 11:13 pm PT
Is it bad when your moderation history has the "Next Page" button highlighted as an option?

Just curious...
Posted Aug 13, 2009 5:00 am PT
I'd love to share my stories about Gamespots moderators, but I'm afraid I might get suspended.
Posted Aug 13, 2009 10:18 am PT
I think I've gotten quite a few comments censored due to, erm, being tough on another person, but most of the time they've asked for it! (Or at least, hehe, I've decided they asked for it, haha!) but nothing too mayor ever really, just warnings.

Hey Symph! Long time no see!!
Posted Aug 13, 2009 12:00 pm PT
omg well the one that just a couple that just happened....i got suspended for being offensive to a guy because i said he was dumb for cheating on COD4 and not thinking he would get banned for it...
Posted Aug 14, 2009 12:23 am PT
I was modded unfarly, IMO, so many times it has become an habit...
Posted Aug 14, 2009 3:59 am PT
Eh... I'm just waiting for the straw that breaks the camel's back.

I've been modded so much that it's only a matter of patience before I get banned.

they must be the kids that got picked on in high school and being power hungry on the internet must give them feel good power. idk, but all i know is they are trying to turn us into Disney.

All recent Blogs have finally been responded to!

29 comments huh? Do I REALLY want to respond to all of them? Nah, just the ones that might want a response. XD

@hazelnutman: Haha, I'm surprised you didn't get modded for that comment alone! lol

@galerian86: None at all? Booooooooooo!

@BPoole96: You've had more than me then! I was never threatened to be banned!

@Flame_Blade88: They didn't give you a reason? Gosh, that sucks. Did you ever ask? D:

@raven_squad: Hahaha! Irony. Wouldn't it be GREAT if a mod came in and saw that comment and modded you not because you wrote the word, but because you "bypassed the censors", even though it's an okay word, again? XD

@The_Tombo: I believe everyone BUT me got modded like mad over the departed Zeforgotten.

@Chaos_Bladez: Yeah. That Uncharted moderation was pretty silly in my opinion.

@TTDog: Naw, it's alright! lol I need to check myself and see if I'm on the same page.

@kenerhai: Good call, good call. I was already sort of worried that someone would get suspended off my blog...again. lol

@C-Himura: YOU LIVE! @Eazy1891: I see...So I shouldn't be calling anyone dumb either. lol

@Scianix-Black: A matter of patience? Haha, that quote is of win! lol

@1noteshort: Careful. We don't want you modded for that comment. o.o;;

@N-Real: My banscythe only hurts, not revive!

Well, I called someone a ****
It left much to the imagination, I guess, and I got modded 5 days for it. lmao, tbh most of time I deserve it
Posted Aug 15, 2009 11:38 am PT
@Symphonycometh: and when have i EVER had a built in censor for that stuff =P, idk what the problem is but they really need to tweek the limitations and strictness. I already have my 1up account ready in case.....just wont let me chance the flippin' picture =(

My mod experiences have been very small. I play in the rules... the only time (maybe times?) I got modded was simply because I didn't read the terms of service before clicking accept. Then later I got modded for not obeying one of the terms... oh well. being suspended gave me some time to actually read them...
