A Little of This and Little of That
Thursday, Jul 24, 2008

Good day everyone!!! Well .... as I said ... yesterday the cable guy came. However, at about 11:15 pm last night, the connection to my modem was broken AGAIN!!! In addition, I'm getting an error on the cable box in my bedroom. The modem (obviously) was connecting this morning, so I'm hoping that was a fluke.

The bedroom cable box is going to be replaced tomorrow, and hopefully that will fix that problem. The representative that I spoke to this morning said that I might not be getting a strong enough signal ... Which is fine, but isn't that why the damned cable guy was out here yesterday? To fix that? I'm confused by the whole thing. I'm obviously going to have to bone up on the technology of cable lines and signals. GRRR

EDIT: In the news today, studies link cancer with countertops!!! Apparent only the granite countertops ... as the manmade formica countertops certainly couldn't contain cancer causing agents. Hmmmm ... I wonder who funded the study?

Other than that ... I'm laying around like a vegetable today. With the occasional load of laundry and clean-em up stuff.

Quote of the Day:

An idea not coupled with action will never get any bigger than the brain cell it occupied.
Arnold H. Glasow

And ~ What I'm Reading:

I was going to read "The Secret" thinking it was a mystery type book. I've found out it's a strange self help book. I will read it ... but essentially the secret is that all of your thoughts are tangible things. So if you think you're thin, you'll become thing, if you think you're healthy you'll become healthy. Etc etc. So ... I'll be going back to my J.D. Robb In death series. I have to look to see what the next one is I'll be reading. I'll update more on that later.

And ~ What I'm Watching:

Tonight is SYTYCD, Flashpoint, and Burn Notice. I missed the first Flashpoint but I'm hoping that I'll be able to catch up pretty quick since I only missed the one episode.

And ~ Poem Of The Day:

Earth

At nine point eight meters per second
per second
Earth clasps us to her bosom
In response we spurn her with our heels like
teenagers at home

Where else will we go --?
Out
with our friends to a club on Io
and next morning,
when all the garish cans of flat fizz
contain ash and God knows what,
What gentle curved horizon
will we press our drooping cheek to
and snore like babes?

And finally the ~ Song of the Day:

She Blinded Me With Science

It's poetry in motion
She turned her tender eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony

Mmm - but she blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
And failed me in biology

When I'm dancing close to her
"Blinding me with science - science!"
I can smell the chemicals
"Blinding me with science - science!"

"Science!"
"Science!"

Mmm - but it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony

Mmm - but she blinded me with science
And failed me in geometry
When she's dancing next to me
"Blinding me with science - science!"

"Science!"

I can hear machinery
"Blinding me with science - science!"

"Science!"

It's poetry in motion
And now she's making love to me
The spheres're in commotion
The elements in harmony

She blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
And hit me with technology

"Good heavens Miss Sakamoto - you're beautiful!"

I - I don't believe it!

There she goes again!

She's tidied up, and I can't find anything!

All my tubes and wires
And careful notes
And antiquated notions

But! - it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony

Mmm - but she blinded me with science
"She blinded me with - with science!"
She blinded me with -

Heya folksies. The cable guy came today, and replaced everything that needed to be replaced. Soooo I'm back online!!! YAY. He said my signal was pretty weak on my connections ... so he replaced them and actually I can tell the difference. Everything's working better and faster. YAY

And now without further ado ... the rest of the blog ...

Quote of the Day:

How can a society that exists on instant mashed potatoes, packaged cake mixes, frozen dinners, and instant cameras teach patience to its young?
Paul Sweeney

And ~ What I'm Reading:

I finished reading Tribute, by Nora Roberts. The ending had a twist I wasn't expecting. So ... I'm not going to give it away. But I will say that Cilla and Ford do get engaged and as in all NR's books ... live happily ever after. YAY

And ~ What I'm Watching:

Tonight it's ... SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!!! YAY.

And ~ Poem Of The Day:

Love is a Sickness

Love is a sickness full of woes,
All remedies refusing;
A plant that with most cutting grows,
Most barren with best using.
Why so?

More we enjoy it, more it dies;
If not enjoy'd, it sighing cries--
Heigh ho!

Love is a torment of the mind,
A tempest everlasting;
And Jove hath made it of a kind
Not well, nor full nor fasting.
Why so?

More we enjoy it, more it dies;
If not enjoy'd, it sighing cries--
Heigh ho!

Samuel Daniel

And finally the ~ Song of the Day:

Tainted Love

Tainted Love lyrics

Sometimes I feel I've got to run away
I've got to get away
From the pain you drive jnto the heart of me.
fhe love we share seems to go nowhere

And I've lost my light for I toss and turn - I can't sleep at night.

Once I ran to you
now I'll run from you

This tainted love you've given -
I give you all a boy could give you.
Take my tears and that's not living - oh
tainted love - tainted love.

Now I know I've got to run away
I've got to get away.
You don't really want it any more from me -
To make things right you need someone to hold you tight

And you'll think love is to pray but I'm sorry I don't pray that ws

Once I ran to you
now I'll run from you

Don't touch me please - I cannot stand the way you tease.
I love you though you hurt me so

Now I'm gonna pack my things and go. Tainted love - tainted love

Quote of the Day:

I have tried to lift France out of the mud. But she will return to her errors and vomitings. I cannot prevent the French from being French.
Charles de Gaulle

And ~ What I'm Reading:

Still finishing up Tribute, Nora Roberts. I'm nearly done, do ya'll want to know who done it? Or not?

And ~ What I'm Watching:

Tonight is re-runs of Family Guy, AND The Cleaner

And ~ Poem Of The Day:

I Leave Thee for Awhile

I leave thee for awhile, my love, I leave thee with a sigh;
The fountain spring within my soul is playing in mine eye;
I do not blush to own the tear,-let, let it touch my cheek,
And what my lip has failed to tell, that drop perchance may speak.
Mavourneen! when again I seek my green isle in the West,
Oh, promise thou wilt share my lot, and set this heart at rest.

I leave thee for awhile, my love; but every hour will be
Uncheered and lonely till the one that brings me back to thee.
I go to make my riches more; but where is man to find
A vein of gold so rich and pure as that I leave behind?
Mavourneen! though my home might be the fairest earth possessed,
Till thou wouldst share and make it warm, this heart would know no rest.

I leave thee for awhile, my love; my cheek is cold and white,
But ah, I see a promise stand within thy glance of light;
When next I seek old, Erin's shore, thy step will bless it too,
And then the grass will seem more green, the sky will have more blue.
Mavourneen! first and dearest loved, there's sunshine in my breast,
For thou wilt share my future lot, and set this heart at rest.

Eliza Cook

And finally the ~ Song of the Day:

If You Leave

If you leave, don't leave now
Please don't take my heart away
Promise me just one more night
Then we'll go our separate ways
With hours left time on our sides
Now it's fading fast
Every second every moment
We've got to--we've gotta make it last

I touch you once I touch you twice
I won't let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we'd still be friends someday

If you leave I won't cry
I won't waste one single day
But if you leave don't look back
I'll be running the other way
Seven years went under the bridge
Like time was standing still
Heaven knows what happens now
You've got to--you've gotta say you will

I touch you once I touch you twice
I won't let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we'd meet again

I touch you once I touch you twice
I won't let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we'd still be friends

I touch you once I touch you twice
I won't let go at any price
I need you now like I needed you then
You always said we'd meet again someday

If you leave
Oh if you leave
Oh if you leave
Don't look back
Don't look back

Stardust
Wow, this was such a fun movie. Swashbuckling adventure, fantasy, humor, love. All of that rolled up into one phenomenal motion picture. Robert DeNiro was exceptional as was Michelle Pfeiffer. I don't think any of the cast could have been picked...

Aeon Flux
I thought this was a pretty good movie. I'm in love with the genre though. I realize it was similar to many movies that have been coming out with the futuristic vigilante theme. However, as far as these movies go, I was pretty pleased with it.
