I have never played Final Fantasy before and I have been thinking about where would be a good starting place to get into the series. If I start playing a new series I don't like to start in the middle with no clue as to what is going on in the story. I am also thinking about getting Resident Evil 1, 2 & 3 for GC to get ready for Resident Evil 4 that I just bought.

For Final Fantasy, inless you have a Ps1, a Ps2 with a Ps1 memory card or a backwards compatible Ps3 go with. Final Fantasy 10, especially if you like classic battle systems, with just a little extra twist into it.

OH! Wait I saw your reviews showing you have the older systems.
On amazon you can buy FF8 and FF9 for like 20 bucks.

Playing through the various RE titles would really help the entire experience. Final Fantasy doesn't have a story which is carried throughout the series. Final Fantasy X is a good entry point into the series if you want linear story and minimal options, but I do agree with the second posting which suggests IX. FFVI and VII are widely regarded as the most influential RPG's in gaming history (with a few exceptions [Chrono Trigger]). Personally, I felt VIII was a joke. the story was great, but the battle system was set up in a way that it practically encouraged keeping your main character at the lowest level posible while simply leveling every one else up, as the enemies leveled up with Squall, essentially rendering a leveling system mute.

You don't need to play any previous FF's to jump into a newer one (except FFX-2). I reccomend FFX, FFVII, and FFIX. Stay away from FFVIII.
