This is a conversation that should not even be taking place.

Am I the only one who sees that? Am I?

Read the thread.

There are just so many things on this site that need time and attention from the staff. Yet, instead, they are spending their time thinking about how to reinstate voluntarily retired editors.

Why?

Is this really necessary? How many editors will it ~actually~ affect? And is there really an editor who is SO busy that they can't check in once a week? I mean, what... is someone going to move to a mud hut in the middle of the desert where there's no internet? Really?

Even if it's necessary, it certainly isn't more important than fixing the bugs that have infested this site for years.

And that alone makes the conversation ridiculous. It should not be taking place.

More editors need to tell the staff this rather than weighing in with a yes or a no, and their ideas of how to make such a low-priority idea work.

Well it's about as ridiculous as discussing the 10 sub cap or trying to make hard rules about the allusions. Why can't they just leave that alone to the editor?

Stig, I think the discussion is necessary, but I agree that the bugs should be fixed first. I don't think they should program in a ton of new editor functions w/o first ironing out existing bugs.

While I agree that priority should be given to fixing existing bugs, I don't think it's ridiculous for us to be having that discussion. If people don't think it's a good idea, then they should say so on that thread.

Yes stig, there are very few of us who worry about what should really be a priority, and that's why conversations about un-retiring editors take place instead of ones about fixing everlasting bugs, like my long-current favorite "the n/a bug" that I for months tried to rally people to get fixed with pretty much no luck. That one is slowly but surely ruining most every person guide on the site, but yeah like you said, I guess almost no one (staff and users) really cares about actual site quality. That's why we give up for the most part I guess. *sigh*
