Well, I read this article concerning an extra fee in order to download a copy Spore. Their claim is that they are protecting the download for you for two years, in case your hard drive fries (maybe) or you get a new rig (more likely). This seems like a fairly cool idea, and I can understand where they're coming from from a business point of view, but I really hope that other services such as steam, since it's really the only service I use. With steam, you can re-download your files however many times you want, and they keep them indefinitely. To top it off, they don't charge you anything extra, and they have great discounted prices. At the expense of losing the physical disk and box-art etc. you gain a good price on a game. It's great! It seems like EA is really trying to do what it does best, be a business. From an economic standpoint, it makes sense that they're trying to get as much money as possible to produce more material, thereby increasing stocks, and giving some money back to the consumer. Regardless of this fact, I sincerely hope that other companies do not pick up on the idea to charge their users for keeping the files on their servers neither a charge for keeping this file nor placing a time restraint on storing your media. These services are designed to bring gaming to the community at extremely good prices, because they give you only the files for the game, and nothing else.
