I realized I haven't posted in about a month, and so much has happened since then! Sorry I haven't given any TGS updates, so hope you guys were checking out the event page instead I haven't even had a chance to sort through photos, butI'll be sure to post some tasty-looking food pics here eventually! Overall, TGS was fun, but not as fun as last year. Mostly because the show was a bit sad with less publishers and people.

This isn't going to be a very interesting blog post without pictures, but I'll try to organize my stuff this weekend and post something next week. In the meantime, I had a chance to play New Super Mario Bros. Wii and I love it! It's a lot like Super Mario 3, which is one of my favourite games of all time (Mario World comes very very close). The multiplayer is a bit chaotic, like Little Big Planet, but the controls are tight and it's everything you love about 2D Mario.

Have you guys been watching TOTS? It's getting better don't you think? I'm sorry I haven't been catching up on your blogs, I'll try to get around to that soon. Hope everyone is doing well and participating in the All-Time Greatest Game Hero thing... I can't believe Mario is NOT winning!!! Makes me sad Maybe if I actually played Half-Life I wouldn't be as upset, I'm sure Gordon's a fantastic individual.

On a random note, I saw Zombieland last night. I don't like zombie movies, and I never watch them intentionally. I am Legend is the only one I can think of, and it kind of threw me off guard because I didn't realize there were zombies until later I generally avoid scary horror movies, even the really fake ones. But I thought Zombieland was hilarious, even though I was grossed out by some of it.But it wasn't one of those horrible movies where it's so bad you think it's funny, I thought it was genuinely funny!

Rule #1 to surviving Zombieland - Cardio.

Rule #2 - Double Tap.

It doesn't seem like anything else is worth watching in theatres at this point. The last movie I saw before Zombieland was The Proposal--which was cute btw.

Have a good weekend!

I haven't been seeing many movies in the theaters anymore. I do think I'll be making an exception for Zombieland though! On a side note, the reason Gordon is winning the vote is because Steam/Valve asked their users to vote for him. They effectively ruined the integrity of this contest. Ah well...

I want to see Zombieland this weekend hopefully

I did see a lot of game coverage on the TGS page. However, I found Gamespot's tasty food coverage somewhat lacking.

Do you think New SMB Wii would be fun if played alone? I'm worried I won't enjoy as much as most people if I buy it.

I'm really enjoying TOTS. The show seems to have found its groove lately. Everyone's doing a great job of squeezing as much info as possible into their short segments

Also, I didn't realize what a cool acronym the show had until I saw it in your blog just now.

Mario not being in the lead saddens me. Why can't the internet share all of my opinions and values?!

@johnsteed7 - Actually I will probably want to play through the game alone, and then play with friends for fun. It's really hard to be productive with four players. I've always had fun playing SMB games on my own And I agree with you about the Internet.

I did enjoyed the TGS coverage despite the lack of content, I hope next year is better. TOTS? I don't miss an episode, to be honest. The show is really great. Good job! BUT (there's always a but...) why don't you host the show? it's not live and because of that small detail you can get back if you fail anything.

I am also shocked about Mario for not going in the lead, I hope he can recover though. Have a great weekend as well.

Sweet, cant wait to see pics, wish i could've gone

I saw Zombieland too; I thought it was great. I really want to see Where the Wild Things Are.

Waiting for pics Sophie & TGS was definitely weak due to lack of new content & Publisher support but The fun of TGS (For Me & Many Others) is always the Japan & Strange people of there ,I really like how the show plays up, Japanese people eare strange for sure................

Well You know it Valve is cheating, It's promoting Freeman on forums, One good way to have a fair competition would have been that users at lest 3 month old only would have been able to vote..............

Still Freeman is great character but nothing huge then solid Snake & The Legendary Link, Who can say that Link or The big daddy of gaming world Plumber could have been beaten........

Only good thing wee can expect from this competition is that Valve realizes it & release Half Life 2 Episode 3 soon.............

Have a good time .....

I am stunned to see that Mario isn't in the lead, but then I was also surprised by Bub and Bob. It's been a great feature.

I'm glad to hear good things about Zomebieland, the trailer looked pretty funny.. but I've been hurt before.

I didn't really catch up on anything from TGS this year Probably because they're wasn't a live show which use to show quite a bit of it off
Posted Oct 9, 2009 12:27 pm PT
@canana - heh, they've been asking me to host, but I think the others do a really great job so I'll leave it to them. I don't mind co-hosting though

I haven't seen either movie you mentioned, but I'm planning on seeing both. I have a soft spot for zombie movies, but not usually the ones that take themselves too seriously. The 2004(?) Dawn of the Dead remake was just... I couldn't watch more than 45 minutes of it. I'm a little more into zombie comedy and really campy zombie movies (which I haven't seen enough of).

The Greatest Hero thing... I don't know. I feel like I should care about Valve campaigning, but every company had the opportunity to do it. Valve was just the only one to actually take action on it, and they reaped some massive benefits. However it turns out, there were some genuinely interesting matches going on and some real surprises.

I wasn't too interested in NSMB Wii at first, but as more has come out, I've warmed up to the idea. It sounds like it's a lot more challenging than all the recent Mario games, and that's good, because a lot of them felt really easy, like Super Mario Sunshine.

TOTS is getting really good, and Zombieland sounds cool.

What was your favorite thing at TGS this year?
Posted Oct 9, 2009 3:33 pm PT
I too am also pumped with NSMBwii.
At first I was skeptical seeing as it initially looked like the ds version ported up to the wii...but I think it looks so fun that I think I'll be able to over look that.

Glad you liked the movie. I've played both games and I also want Mario to win, he was who I had winning too.

@Blankgen86 - Okamiden looked pretty cool, and I'm always excited for a new Professor Layton The Studio Ghibli game, Ninokuni looked great too. Those were the highlights of what I covered.

If you're referring to the more recent release of "I am Legend", I'm not sure it can be classified as a zombie movie - the "infected" of the original book were victims of vampirism (as disease), and although Matheson's narrative also included a second, distinct group of undead more closely resembling the zombie stereotype, that distinction is not explicitly made in the Francis Lawrence version of the film.

If you'd like a good, though funny, zombie-apocalypse movie (in a typically British under-stated manner), try Shaun of the Dead

Apologies ... occasionally the pedantic geek within emerges!

@s_h_a_d_o - oh yeah, I remember they weren't really classified under the general umbrella of zombie, but anything that involves diseased humans I lump in one category
Posted Oct 9, 2009 4:46 pm PT
I'm only somewhat interested in the New Super Mario Bros. I hope it isn't too easy...the last one was very easy.

Cool, looking forward to those TGS pictures. I am enjoying TOTS very much and I'm so glad that its back and in full swing. 3 times a week is a great idea too. I really hope that Mario can pull it out!

I saw the first one... but got denied the emblem. oh well... I still love the show!
Posted Oct 10, 2009 11:58 am PT
I'm kind of curious to see Zombieland.
Posted Oct 10, 2009 7:38 pm PT
TOTS is getting better and better. Keep up the good work!
Posted Oct 11, 2009 9:52 am PT
I'm okay with the diseased generalization... As long as you don't call me a zombie when I'm inevitably infected with swine flu!

Good to see a fellow Canadian working in the wonderful confines of GameSpot! You're a great hostess on TOTS Sophia! I really like your enthusiasm.

@Rossuron - thanks for the kind words yay another Canadian!

Zombieland had an amazing take on zombies - it gets you right from the the start with the rules - Cardio has to be my favorite rule, mainly, because I ignore it in the gym
