Prince of Persia arrived in the mail from GameFly yesterday. Little disappointed that it wasn't Prototype but I was really excited to play PoP before it was released and while my interest in it has dwindled I'm still happy to be playing it now.

Really, though, what is the deal with those easy cheevos? You literally get one for playing the game the first time. Seriously?! I don't think I've ever unlocked that many achievements that quickly - all for doing practically nothing. It felt like just about every minute some achievement was popping up. I would have gotten another easily too had I known that there was one for beating the Concubine a certain way.

Personally, I think achievements should mean something - that they should be an achievement; not because I can hold the block button.

Seems like the rest won't come AS easily but none really seem particularly hard. I am fairly certain that I won't be getting the cheevo for falling less than 100 times. I think I may have come close in the hour I played just last night.

I am hoping I can get the girlfriend in to this one. It's a gorgeous looking game. She was sitting next to me while I played and she was having fun with some of the humorous dialogue - although the way they enunciate "fertile" was really ticking her off. So between that and the no risk of death aspect of the game, I'm hoping she gets interested. She's told me that she hates "failing" in games so this seems to be along the right path anyway.

I found a site this week called True Achievements and what they've done is adjust achievement points with a TA ratio... basically they take an achievement and adjust it's point total to reflect how hard or how easy it is to get it. They get the ratio by taking the number of gamers with the game, and how many of those get each achievement. For instance if less than 10% of the game's owners get a particular achievement the ratio might result in a point total three times what the actual point total is, whereas if 99% get the achievement it's a x1 ratio. It's an interesting idea and I found the site had lots of cool stats to look at... in fact I stayed up too late last night absorbed in the site. Check it out sometime and if you join add me as a friend (I have none!), I'm using my cr8tr gamertag.

I know what you mean, but in The Simpsons game, you get an achievement for pressing start at the beginning. Seriously. Girlfriend?!?! What???!!!!

Most of them in this game were pretty easy, but some really are achievements, at least they were for me. I played it the week it came out so finding every single light seed without a guide was a bit of a triumph for me. Also, the 14 hit combo took a couple of tries to pull off. I had to play it twice to get the fall under 100 achievement (fell way more than that finding all the light seeds) and beat it under 12 hours (piece of cake if you rush through). Still, I really really loved that game. Also, don't you hate when Gamefly sends you a game you aren't in the mood for. Sometimes I'll clear my entire queue except for the one game I want and stubbornly wait until they send it to me. That shows em!

I'm in complete disagreement! I don't think there is such a thing as "too easy" for either achievements or for any other aspect of a game. That only means the fun has less interruptions from dying, failing, or whatever it might be.

So, fertile as in furtle, or fir-tile ..?
... because I'd actually go with the latter.

A couple of the Prince of Persia achievements/trophies are seriously glitched. Most particularly, the combo specialist one. It just plain doesn't always work.

I found this out the hard way after spending a lot of time doing things like grabbing a 1001 freaking light seeds and then searching online for the various combos.

You have been warned.

@polsci1503 - sounds pretty cool. I certainly agree with their thinking. Giant Bomb does something similar. I've never liked the way achievements were implemented. I joined up and added you. So now we can be like True Achievement BFFs.

@tiggerboy - I pretty much felt that way when the first cheevo in PoP showed up. And another one for using the map. Yes. We need to hang out and catch up. Ooh, any plans for the 4th?

@yeah_write - I've got my GF account too loaded up now to delete everything for the sake of one game. I just make sure to update the order enough so I get something I'm at least reasonably interested in. Prolly have to do a second run through to finish off the cheevos on this one though.

@ChiliDragon - I like that there's no penalty for "death" or losing in fights. But the achievement thing does irk me a little. I just get more satisfaction out of them when I actually earn them rather than have them handed to me for playing the game.

@s_h_a_d_o - fir-tile. she can't stand it. annoys me too but I can deal with it.

@nocoolnamejim - I shall heed your warning and look for the combo cheevo before I collect all the seeds. thanks for the heads up.

Queen's English for you I'm afraid!
Tell her I get ticked off by the "colonial" aluminum, rather than alumin-i-um!

I got 750 out of 1250 from a gamefly rental on that. I did get the "Be Gentle with Her" achievement, despite putting no effort into not dieing. I did download the epilogue content. Just to warn you, it is a waste of money. They still don't end the game in it.

@polsci1503 - Giantbomb does something similar. If you tell it to list your achievements it groups them into "common", "uncommon", and "rare". I like game to have a mix of achievements.... some that are easy so unskilled players can get a cheap thrill, some that you have to work a bit for, and some that you really have to go out of your way for so the perfectionists will have something to do.

Man I really wanted to enjoy PoP, but for what ever reason I could not get into it. Too different from the first 3 games I guess.
