$338.46

Yesterday I sold a gaming account and was successfully scammed via Paypal due to no protection or information given to or for the seller (me). I understand that this kind of stuff happens all the time, and it's just unfortunate that it happened to me. There was almost no way around this and I've learned my lesson to execute any transactions over Paypal regarding to any account. May I add that I've sold quite a few accounts before this and have had nothing but smooth transactions. Where did all the scammers come from and why doesn't Paypal address the issue with a little more security to all users? Fix the hole in your system, Paypal.

Here is an audio recording of me fully explaining everything that's happened thus far, and then calling Paypal fraud services. You can skip to about the fifteen minute mark to hear the phone call.

Here is said video I mentioned in the recording.

Nothing more I can do.

Man, what a real bummer. I do use PayPal from time to time to make transactions, but I do worry about the security surrounding it. Thanks for the insightful information on the scam -- I listened to the audio file, and it really is quite shocking how potentially easy it is to do something like that. Not that it's any consolation, but at least the guy on the other line was a friendly bloke.

big regrets to you.

ouch, that sucks. I've never sold anything on ebay, but I've sometimes wondered why the seller will go into painful detail of their preferred transaction process and what information they require from the buyer. I've always thought if anyone is to be the scammer, it's the seller, but this "reverse scam" that you've unfortunately had to go through answers that question for me. Let us know if you get the account situation resolved with Blizzard. I don't know if it could help, but maybe go with requiring a money order payment from a buyer, as it's a little safer on the seller end.

Wow that really blows... Sorry man, i know a few people this has happened to by selling WoW accounts... I suppose it shouldn't happen again though right? Thanks for this blog, it should provide a good lesson for people who are thinking of doing the same thing, that when you dont expect yourself to get conned, it'll most likely happen Sorry man.

E-bay/Paypal makes sure that THEY dont get scammed and that THEY get their money, and to heck with the customers. That is their philosopy. Been that way from the beginning. they really dont do anyting to plug holes in their systerm....Unless it affects their money........sorry you got scammed.
